Hold that salt, please!
by djrobsd
This restaurant is a prime example of a place that caters to the rich, but yet leaves you walking out the door feeling like you've been overcharged for your meal. The food definitely has potential, but unfortunately, my steak was over salty, and had too much pepper on it. Thank god I didn't allow my waitress to put more "fresh ground pepper on it", or I would have been choking on all the pieces of pepper.
I paid $39 for a piece of steak, $10 for a small plate of mushrooms, and $11 for a glass of Zinfendel from NAPA. I didn't feel like I got my money's worth, especially with the over-salted steak. It was juicy and tender, so I'll give it credit for that, and it was cooked exactly how I ordered it, but unfortunately they over-seasoned it, and that left me with a bad taste in my mouth for the Capital Grille. I've had better steaks at much less expensive restaurants. If I'm going to pay this kind of money for a meal, it better be the best meal I've had all year.
- Pros: Service was excellent, atmosphere
- Cons: Overpriced food, OVERPRICED wine, some wines priced 4x retail!!!!!!!! Over seasoned food!
Good dinner

One thing about the Capital Grill, it is consistent. We have eaten at the original location many times and the food in Phoenix was just as good. We dined there because they were participating/donating to the Katrina anniversary charity. It was also my wife's birthday. They decorated the table and added the small details that made the dinner special for her. As usual, the meal was excellent.
- Pros: food, wine, atmosphere
- Cons: It is pricy, but the meal is good
Award-winning steaks and first class service make for a four-star dining experience.

In Short
Richness and warmth radiate from the plush leather seating and mahogany trim, and a knowledgeable and seasoned staff further enhance the truly first-class experience. Whether you prefer the filet mignon or a 24 ounce porterhouse, the dry-aged beef is guaranteed to please, and is the cornerstone of a menu that also features hand-cut chops and fresh seafood. With more than 400 selections, the winelist is one of the most impressive in metropolitan Detroit.
Delicious food, extraordinary service, lovely atmosphere

This is a terrific place! We had a wonderful meal with some of the best service we've ever had anywhere. The live Maine lobster I ordered was perfectly steamed, and my Lobster Bisque had lots of Lobster tail in it! My husband's dry-aged sirloin was moist and juicy, and perfectly prepared. What an incredible wine selection, too! For dessert, we shared the Coconut Creme Pie that our server suggested, and it was the best we've ever had. The Stoli Doli Martini is a must-try!! I can't wait to go back...
- Pros: Service, Incredible Wine List, Romantic Ambience
- Cons: Not suitable for kids.

My wife and I have been to the Capitol Grille several times and each has been an absolutely fantastic experience. We travel all over the world and have had the great fortune to experience food/service/ambience at some of the most posh and trendy spots anywhere -- and the Capitol Grille can stand head to head with some of the most exquisite places out there. We look forward to going back soon!
