Bland Food, Interesting style

I recently moved to Arizona and on my second night here some local friends took me out to Buca de Bepo for dinner. I personally love Italian food so I was so up for it. My fist impression of the place was, "wow this is really interesting!" The decorations on the wall definitely give it it's own flavor. The bathroom was hilarious and the tour through the restaurant was fun. After having some nice service and pleasant conversations we got our food. It was very bland and had absolutely no flavors. I would have rather eaten something at home than what I had. I didn't even order anything out of the ordinary. It was plain pasta with broccoli and alfrado sauce. My fiance had a different kind of pasta, neither of us were impressed. It was a fun experience, but we should have eaten somewhere else.
- Pros: huge portions, good prices, ok service, amazing decor
- Cons: food was flavorless
Get cozy with friends and family and enjoy an Italian feast at this loved-by-locals restaurant.

In Short
Homesick for your mother's Italian cooking? Grab your appetite and head to this restaurant, where the friendly wait staff will serve up portions of Colosseum-esque proportions, like spaghetti and meatballs loaded with savory tomato sauce and lots of pungent garlic. Dishes center on Southern Italian immigrant fare, and are meant to be shared family-style with a large goblet of wine-to enhance the taste, of course. The ornate décor with walls covered in vintage photos evokes a warm homey feel that welcomes customers to dine among the other families and loyal customers. Buon Appetito!

Bucca reall stood out in the 90's when it went for the southern Italian/NY Italian restaurant with the black and white photos of Frank Sinatra and Sophia Loren. Now, it's essentially become another Olive Garden type of chain and the quality of both the service and food has decreased considerably in the last 8 years. When the restaurant still maintained some prestige has an upscale chain much like a Cheesecake factory, they hired smart college students or recently graduated college students that were sharp. Now, they hire your standard high school grad who isn't enrolled at any college. The restaurant now caters to large groups and are so busy serving the masses that the quality in service and food is remniscient of a Lubys. I would not dine here unless you were forced to feed 20 people at one sitting.
- Pros: Portions, Price, Good for Large Groups
- Cons: Poor Service, Food tastes generic and unflavorful, Long Waits
