Good Food, GREAT SERVICE!
by Foodenthusiast122
I was a little unsure about trying John Henry's after reading the previous review, but I'm glad I didn't let that person sway me. The food is very good, great portions and good prices. Giovanni was our server and he was EXCELLENT!!! Five Star service all the way!!! I recommend this establishment, you won't be disappointed!
Can I Give Less Than One Star??

There's something going on with these reviews. I have a feeling they were written by the owner or someone with an interest in this place. I flew in from out of town the other day to visit family and my mother and I were in the area so we stopped by to get a drink and a bite to eat.
We grabbed a table in the bar area, the Suns were playing and there were only a couple people in there. It took ten minutes before someone came to take our drink order. The drinks came out quick and strong...but here's the thing: we had our order ready when the server brought the drinks, however she pretty much tossed them on our table as she was passing, spilling quite a bit...and not even noticing it because she was already gone. she didn't ask about food or anything else. ok, another ten minutes pass and I have to go track down our server....umm, 'can we order food?'. "yeah, I'll be right over". five minutes later she shows up...bread...salad...steak skewers...ravioli...hmmm...no rice available...ok...how about just a burger instead of steak skewers? can you bring out some bbq with that...no, we don't have that. so five minutes pass and we get another fly by of oil and vinegar. Good, we're hungry and thinking the food is on it's way...ten minutes later...nothing. I catch her blazing by and ask about the bread and salad. ummm...the bread is till cooking we're told. Finally, everything arrives pretty much at once. The 'french bread' tastes like crisped wonder bread, the burger is a hockey puck that tastes like cardboard, the ravioli is 5 pieces of flavorless slimy pasta that looks like it came out the wrong side of a bird. The music was obnoxious in it's inconsistency and ranged from Mary J blige to 80's pop.
For them trying to represent this as a higher scale restaurant the service and food quality falls vastly short of a Burger King drive through visit. At least there, you get it your way, right away.
- Pros: Strong Drinks to drown out everything else...
- Cons: Service, Food, Ambience
Great Steaks and overall experience

John Henry's is a great restaurant to go to for casual elegance without the premium you have to pay at many of the restaurants in Scottsdale. The menu is excellent - steaks especially - and the service is attentive and accommodating. You won't be disappointed if you are looking to take the in-laws out for a nice dinner or to meet up with friends in the bar.
- Pros: Atmosphere and food

I have to say that John Henry's has got to be one of the finer places to eat at in Tempe. The food is great and the service is awesome. At first, from a glance inside I was thinking that I was a bit under dressed and I probably was, however, that didn't stop the staff there from treating me just as good as the guy 2 tables over that had on a 3 piece suite. I've been there several times now and it still impresses me, especially when the chef surprises the patrons with those daily specials. Speaking of the chef, this isn't something that you see often but he comes out and actually walks around and talks to the patrons which I REALLY think is cool.
I"ve been back there a half dozen times and I've had most everything on the menu now and can't say that there's anything that I dislike. Well, except for something with bell peppers, but that's just cause I hate bell peppers. :) They have an incredible lobster bisque soup that is to die for. It's nice, creamy and rich like a bisque should be and it's perfect size for sharing if you're on a date. The ambiance allows for a romantic dinner so it's nice to share. If you want to be a little more casual you can always sit over at the bar and eat as well. I like doing that on the nights they have live entertainment cause that makes for a fun night.
The kitchen staff seems to be pretty flexible and always willing to make whatever adjustments you request of them and the food is incredible. Over the last year I've noticed that it's gotten even better, with new things to choose from on the menu and some very intereresting specials that always taste as good as they sound. I'd have to say if you're visiting the AZ area or live here, this is a place you have to try. Bring a date, bring your wife or bring your family, but definately bring your appetite and try everything you can. Good eats to everyone and let me know what you think of it.
- Pros: Food, Staff, Ambience, quality
- Cons: Bread is just ok.
Wow!
by foodieforever35
This place is awesome!! We were greeted at the door, which was held open for us. We were seated promptly. When we told our server that we were foodies and interested in something unusual he actually had one of the chefs come out, Sean, who introduced himself and talked us through our meal. We had a great oyster rockefeller and crab cakes for appetizer, lobster bisque and a grilled salad with chipotle dressing for salad course and Sean put together a special combination of Mahi Mahi and Lamb Chops. Out of this world! I can't remember a better meal. Live entertainment started about 7:30 and was a very nice addition to the atmosphere. The service was prompt and courteous and very cute! He suggested some very nice wine matches to accompany our meal. Management bade us farewell at the door. This is my new regular place--cant reccomend it more.--Jodi S.

Not Very Good
by foodforfun
Overated dining. The food was geasy and not worth the price. Waiters are good, bartenders offensive and not a nice place to socialize. I found the menu was upscale priced but the restaruant was less than adequate. Bathrooms dirty. Over hyped computer rating. I found it a bit sleezy.
- Pros: Location, Vine next door
- Cons: bad drinks, smells
Yummy in my tummy

We accidently ran into this establishment and decided to go in and give it a try. Boy are we glad we did!! The service was excellent, service you would expect from "The Top of the Rock" but get at "Macaroni Grill" prices!!! Waiters in tuxedos. Wide variety of appetizers and entrees, a friendly bar and entertainment. Must try!!
- Pros: Great food, Value, friendly
not exactly what i had expected
by conlin664
This stand alone building had plenty of space, so there was no
wait when we just showed up. The waiters are in tuxes, but the service could've been better. My wife's glass of wine came so late in the meal i thought she just wasn't going to get it at all. Then she had to chug it before we left.
The place looks like a $20+ per person type of place, but
the prices were more like 10-15 per plate. So it's a pretty good deal for the value. But you come back for the food.
The alfredo cream sauce was a little to rich from my taste.
There were a lot of items on the menu. If your looking for some upscale italian without going overboard give it a try.
- Pros: no wait, reasonably priced
- Cons: service was slow
