Well, I have to agree with the latest review that the food is average. I hadn't been there in over a year, and it used to be great. The best Thai food I had ever had. But I went yesterday, and it just didn't have the melange of spices that it used to have. In fact, it seemed more Americanized than I recall. They need to get back to the authentic spices, zap that food! Don't worry if it's too far out there for Americans, they can always go eat at Panda Express (Chinese). Cater to the ones that want true Thai flavors. This place was fantastic once, let's hope they get back to that. I must give credit to the Tom Yum Gai...that was still perfect!
- Pros: about $8 a plate
- Cons: not spiced enough
Very Disappointed

I have eaten at Char's twice before, and although it was not fabulous, it was not nearly as disappointing as my most recent visit. I ordered red curry, and it tastes very artificial and extremely oily. My friend ordered Pad Thai and would not finish her meal. There are other thai restaurants in town that I enjoy. Fortunately, I will not need to eat at Char's again. It's too bad the food quality has become so poor.

I have been eating at Char's for about 8 years now; I eat at lots of other Thai restaurant, as well, but I like Char's enough to have brought 20 people there for a brithday party, and everyone loved the food. The staff was well-prepared to help us (we made a reservation), and accomodated everyone's requests greacefully, which they always do for me.
I have only had a noticeable problem with the service once, and the food has always been great- I love their yellow curry, and they have a trout dish where you get the whole fish that is quite good; just be ready to have him staring at you!
Their "Thai hot" is hotter than any place I've ever been, so be careful! (though that was in 1999. I haven't dared to since...)
The atmosphere is quirky, but the place just feels good. You can't argue with that.

When I first moved to the area, I asked many people where I could find good Thai Food, and several suggested Char's. So, I have been there three times, and have had three disappointing experiences, leading me initially to believe that there is no good Thai food in Phoenix. I can get over the Wild Western decor (I think), but I can't get over food quality problems, soggy chicken, overcooked beef, weak spicing, slow service. Another reviewer wrote that their Thai friends say that Char's is authentic. This may very well be true, but it reminds me more of taco stand authentic rather than fine dining authentic. I have since found Thai food I like better, and for mediocre Thai food, there are quicker cheaper solutions.
- Pros: Good Parking
- Cons: , Slow Service

Yeah, it's a little strange looking inside. Wagon wheels, bull horns, Christmas lights, and then there are some asian touches just to be different. But, look past the decorations and taste the food. Awesome. Get #5 beef medium hot and enjoy. I have taken many Thai friends here. They all feel at home. It's food they are used to. If you want REAL, you have found it. Aroy mak kobb.
- Pros: great food, real food, yummy
- Cons: stange looking
