Bad Food For High Price

I was completely disappointed. I was raised on Cuban & Puerto Rican food, so I was looking forward to finding a place where they serve it. I paid a good price only to be let down. Since then I have found a quaint little place that serves the real stuff and the prices are more than great. It's in Mesa, so if you don't mind the drive to a place where you can really enjoy yourself and not have to pay thru the nose. Try K-Rico. 2160 N. Alma School Road Chandler, AZ 85224
- Pros: Nice atmosphere
- Cons: Poor food, high prices

There aren't many Cuban restaurants in Phoenix but this one is awesome. The food takes awhile but that's because it is so good. Also the service can be a bit slow so just prepare yourself for some waiting ahead of time.

Reasons to adore Havana Cafe: the Friday night Sailor's Paella special, when you eat from the bottom, starting with the crusty bits. The amazing silver and gold mojitos, maybe the best in the Valley. Datiles con chorizo, spicy meat-wrapped dates of yumminess. Cho cho, an African squash stuffed and roasted to fork-tenderness over rice with a spicy, creamy sauce. A regularly-rotating specials list that has never failed me.
Unfortunately, service is unreliable. One of their regular waiters is always excellent, but the others are hit-or-miss, and they always seem to be training new servers. This restaurant looks like a dump from the outside, packed into a run-down strip mall, but the food, oh, the food is so good.
- Pros: Fantastic food and drinks
- Cons: Hit-or-miss service

Great Cuban food here, and I have had authentic Cuban fare. Service is spotty; one visit we made here with my parents, the waiter did not show up to even say hello and take our drink orders for nearly 15 minutes after being seated. One evening called to make a reservation and was spoken to very rudely by whomever answered the phone. Service during lunch is sometimes a bit slow. But the food keeps us coming back.
