If you like eating frozen cake that was not freshly baked for your special event . . .

My assistant and I made an appointment to meet with Cathy personally to sample some cakes/flavors for an upcoming 25th business anniversary party. We placed the order 2 weeks in advance and let her know when we would be picking up the cake. When my assistant went to pick the cake up the day of the event, the cake was FROZEN. They "forgot" to take it out of the freezer (so much for a freshly baked cake). Cathy's assistant suggested that we go to AJ's or Costco and buy a cake there if we needed a cake that was to be eaten soon (can you believe that)? When you plan a milestone event you don't expect the cake caters to NOT have your order ready and suggest that you go somewhere else to get your cake at the last minute. We had 20 VIP guests sitting around with frozen cake. One of the guests called and asked to speak to Cathy and she refused to take the call. If you are getting married or have a special event that you want a cake to remember (in a positive way), don't pay the money to be disappointed. Go to AJ's or Costco; they always have fresh baked cake that is not frozen.

Last week, my husband invited his friends and wives to watch the Cardinals play the Panthers in the Playoffs. Of Course, I was the last to know, and I was really looking forward to enjoying the game and the last thing I wanted was to entertain. I called Cathy's Rum Cake and ordered a food tray from her ongoing promos. I ordered the Chicken Enchiladas, Spinach Salad with Roasted Garlic and Bacon Dressing, and Of Course the Strawberry Rum Cake. Everything was great! The Chicken Enchiladas were very moist and filling, with shredded chicken, green onions and cheese - I really loved her Enchilada Sauce. The Spinach Salad was very tasty and crisp - a great compliment to the Enchiladas. Of course, the Strawberry Rum Cake was incredible- decorated in Cardinal Colors. For a few bucks extra, I had everything delivered. I recommend the food trays from Cathy's. What a great experience - I really enoyed the party and the Cards won!

I felt really guilty as I forgot to get my mom her birthday cake. I went into the Phoenix the day of the party and asked if they had any cakes to sell. The nice young man told me that they have a lot of variety. When he brought the cake out it looked like I gave them a weeks notice - and all this took place in under 10 minutes. I was pleasantly surprised. I felt much better. The cake was really good - I got the French Vanilla Strawberry.

Recently, I picked up a Catering Tray at the Chandler Store. I had called Cathy and picked out a menu. I ordered an Orange and Almond Cheeseball; Rumaki; Carved Beef Tenderloin with rolls, Sesame Chicken Wings and Tortellini Salad with the Pine Nuts. You might think that catering food might just a step down from really good restaurant food, but Cathy's was so good that I think that I think that Cathy should open her own restaurant. My new favorite foods are Cathy's Rumaki and the Sesame Chicken Wings. The flavors were very zesty and I really liked the texture of the Rumaki. I had ordered for 20 guests and there were still ample food left. Cathy really does a great job with her catering.

I was on Cathy's Rum Cake Web to get ideas for my Baby Shower Cake and noticed that Cathy's does more than cakes. I ordered a beautiful cake and a La Dolce Ribbon Sandwiches. Cathy also arranged the delivery. It was quite an easy process and the Ribbon Sandwich was just as good as the cake - and beautiful. I bought the one that was just like the one on the website. But, the Ribbon Sandwich was really all I needed to feed my guests. It had chicken salad, chedder cheese and egg salad inside. The cake went over really well. For about $160, I was able to put on a nice baby shower for my sister, and the process was stress free. I highly recommend Cathy's food as well as her cakes.

I went to the Chandler location and Cathy was there to save me with an emergency order. I got her best seller - strawberry rum. So moist and fresh - my family loved it - made me look like a hero and Cathy saved my bacon. I appreciated the way Cathy made me feel good - and not guilty because it such a late order. Cathy is such a great lady!
We had a good laugh - as I worked in a bakery in New York. We froze our cakes because it was the best way to seal in the freshness. A lot of bakeries - I mean a lot of bakeries will bake their cakes on the dry side so they will keep and then moisten them up with a sugary syrup. From my experience, I'll take a Cathy's Rum Cake any day - they get it right from from the start! The one thing that got my goat - which was not Cathy or her company's fault was getting on that Worldwide site. The site poses like it is Cathy's Rum Cake - but it's not! What a lame schmuck that put this Worldwide site together. I was frustrated with that experience - because I thought I was going to legit site. That experience caused me to lose time in ordering the cake. Anyway, my buddy gave me Cathy's real site - the one with the hyphens - it works great and is nice looking. Thank you Cathy for taking care of me!
- Pros: Great Cake - Nice Lady that Cathy Is. I felt comfortable buying from Cathy's Rum Cake.
- Cons: Worldwide Site is Phony-Baloney - Trying to Ride off Cathy's Reputation - for whatever reason

I bought my Wedding Cake from Cathy at the Chandler Store - what a great experience!!!! My Wedding was 2 weeks ago and my 150 guests devored the four tiers of Strawberry Rum, Rum Marble, Raspberry Chocolate and Peach Amaretto. I was on a budget and saved some money with Cathy's Autumn Special. I felt special because Cathy took care of me and now I can't wait for my baby shower cake.
A side bar - watch out for that 'Worldwide' site that doesn't work - I found out that it is not a part of Cathy's Rum Cake, this site makes it hard to find Cathy and her incredible cakes. PIRATES NEVER PROSPER!!!!!!!It angers me that some unethical person would do such a slimy thing to such a sweet lady and her company. My family has bought cakes and catering from Cathy for 20 years. The person who owns this site shound be banned from the internet. I wasted time my time because I was fooled by this site to find the real Cathy's site!
I did a search on Yahoo and found the real site for Cathy's Rum Cake - it is cathys-rum-cake, and boy was I relieved it was great with a link to their blog. They were plenty of pictures between the official website and it made the total experience of a wedding cake from Cathy's Rum Cake totally exciting and enjoyable!
- Pros: The Official Website and Blog made it very easy and exciting to get ideas from. Working with Cathy was great. The Wedding Cake was Incredible!
- Cons: Some one should get rid of that "Worldwide" Site - What a Farce!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It is not fair to Cathy and Cathy's Rum Cake!!!!!

I used Cathy's Rum Cakes years ago, and moved away and came back to the valley again. Last week, I ordered a strawberries with the amaretto - LOVED IT! That cake was so moist, creamy and luscious! My husband told me to get another for this week - I did - the rum marble - chocolate and vanilla rum- my goodness - it was better than the one last week and that was heavenly. Cathy's just keeps getting better and better!
I was kind of worried after being gone so long that the cakes wouldn't be the same. But, Cathy herself there to help - she is still the sweetest thing! Keep Rockin' Cathy - you will be seeing a lot more of me!
- Pros: The Quality of the Cakes and Service were Great!
- Cons: I wanted to eat the whole cake!

I ordered a white cake with marble cream filling and buttercream frosting for my sister's bridal shower and got a yellow cake with chocolate rum filling with whipped cream frosting. When I called Cathy the day before to make sure the cake was ready, she replied with, "Of course it is, I've been here since 6 am." Then I called her the day after the shower to let her know that the cake was not right, she informed me she doesn't even make white cakes nor does she do buttercream frosting. Both of which she never told me when I called and ordered the cake. Seemed to me she just wanted my business and lying got it for her. She never offered anything for the mess up and was extremely rude and so unprofessional. I cannot even believe she's done so well for herself, and so many friends had recommended her to me. I will NEVER use Cathy's Rum Cake again.

I have to say this cake was extremely dissapointing for the being so pricey. The cake was very dense like a bunt cake and almost stale, I am not sure if it was from being still frozen after letting it defrost for many hours, the custard and fruit was still partially frozen and the icing has a chemical taste. I am not sure as a bakery why they freeze these cakes when you order them 1 week in advance. Maybe they make all these cakes and they sit in freezers for months. A regular bakery that I am use to makes your cake when you order it. They are nice there, they should be for paying almost $50 dollars for a 8" cake. Coming from the East Coast where the cakes are 1000 times better for less than half the price. I would not buy another one. I was looking forward to this cake for my birthday it was a BIG let down. They have been in business for many years so people either do not know better or just settle for substandard frozen cakes out here.

I've had Cathy's Rum Cakes for a variety of occasions and every single time they nail it. Now I live in San Francisco and WISH I could have a caterer in the city who makes anything close to these cakes.
Deep Dish Pizza from Chicago
Cheesesteaks from Philly
and Cathy's Rum Cakes from Scottsdale
She is by far the best at what she does. As far as those who complain on this site about frozen cakes, yes they should be thawed before you eat them, but the freezing keeps them absolutely fresh. They are only frozen overnight to keep the fruit and custard fresh but by the time you thaw, WOW. I'm sure you could make a special request to have your cake picked up on the day it was baked if you didn't want it frozen. I highly recommend this caterer for the cakes. My favorite: Strawberry!
