BEST chinese eatery in AZ

by docandsweets

This place is beautiful I just love the decor! The fish tanks make it exotic and the food is so good! The chicken is so tender unlike some other places. The iced tea is very good unlike some other places. Service is friendly and the prices are very good...They have such a wide variety of food. Can't wait to share this place with family and friends!

  • Pros: Friendly, great prices, yummy food, large portions
  • Cons: None

We made a mistake visiting here - horrible service and food :(

by minhju

Our meal started with the manager (we assume) rushing us through the ordering process and then telling us to just order more if we want it later.

We then had two dishes brought to us that were for another table. The first one we realized wasn't ours and told the waitress so. She then went into the kitchen, waited a couple minutes and then took the plate to the table that it belonged at. Again, we were brought the wrong dish (duck) and we just assumed they screwed up again. So rather than complain, we just ate it. All the while the manager was yelling in Chinese at our waitress.

The fried rice was bad ~ no flavor. The shrimp was dirty. And the duck was super oily; which didn't stay in my stomach for long (if you catch my drift).

We should've guessed by the lack of asian patrons that the food would be non-authentic.

We really were disappointed after seeing all the reviews of this place in mags like New TImes; guess payola is still alive and well :(

  • Pros: Nice fish tank
  • Cons: Bad food and service

served a health violation

by sixblades2000

We were served food with multiple growths of mold and undercooked meat. There were 4 patches of mold and each were over 2 square inches in area. I researched their health inspection record and they FAILED in Feb of 2008 with FOUR violations and FAILED in 2007 with SIX health violations.

Please research their health inspection record since I cannot post the link here.

Average, but Authentic

by sshakesp

Having lived in Asia for a few years, it was nice to taste some flavors that I hadn't had in a while. I enjoyed the food, but the service is pushy and lacking. My wife, who loves Asian food, really doesn't like this restaurant. She says the food is "slimey"; texture is everything to her. The average american will find the food different and adventurous, and the avid Asian diner will enjoy it regardless. We have gone with a large group a few times led by a Chinese friend of ours. It was nice to have someone who knew the food and could choose for you...the chicken feet were lack-luster :)

Bottom line, if you want REAL style Chinese, not Americanized stuff, go to C-Fu. However I don't think its for everybody. If you have to have excessive brickabrack all over the walls and the same tasting food, like Chili's or Applebees, then this may not be the place for you. If you want to try something different and enjoyable, then C FU it is.

  • Pros: Authentic Food and Service (as far as Asian service goes)
  • Cons: Pushy servers, no pun intended, Can get expensive

Not good at all!

by wliang

The dim sum at C-fu is marginal if not downright distasteful. The "cheung fun" was stale and dry (if that is possible) and the "siu mai" had a funny aftertaste. If you can't get these two staples of dim sum right, you might as well not even try. The other dim sum was barely edible. For the first time in a long time, I left dim sum on the table unfinished. I moved from the Bay Area where the dim sum is one of the best in the U.S. and C-fu is a big disappointment. I don't mind that they charge for tea but when I requested a tea cup for my baby daughter to drink water out of (the other cups are too big for her to handle) they said they could not do so without charging an additional tea charge... Ridiculous!! The back breaker was that they charge a 15% gratuity on weekends and holidays regardless of the number of people in the party... A total outrage. I can tell you I will never go back to C-fu...EVER! Go to China King (Alma School and Ray), the dim sum is 100 times better and they don't push some BS policy about charging gratuity on the weekend.

  • Pros: None
  • Cons: Food, Ambience, Service.. Just about everything...

Dissapointing

by lbarounis

Maybe I should have gotten dim sum... The lo mein noodles I swear are Barilla linguini. And the shrimp was inedible- the frozen kind in the bag at safeway is better. And is was like $10. What a joke. We only went there because the overpriced sushi place next door was closed for vacation. They also charged us for tea, and I think that is lame.

  • Pros: Nice server.
  • Cons: Not the Freshest. Sorry.

Authentic Style Dishes

by chesney95

So far, this is one of teh only places thatI have been able to get "Authentic" style Chinese Food. The ingrediants are correct though, not always the freshest. The decoratio is typical of a Chinatown stlye restaurant, with very little attention goven to ambiance and more attention given to how many can we fit.

From Salted Squid, Whole Steamed fish to Crispy Chicken and some of the better Dim Sum in town, C-Fu is a regular stop for our family.

  • Pros: Fast Seating, Quick Service, Good Dim Sum Selection
  • Cons: A bit high on the sodium side, alway swell up after eating here but, like it anyway.

Midtown lunch crowd treated to affordable, Chinese gourmet.

by Contributor

In Short
C-Fu Gourmet's latest location is decked in deluxe decor and offers gorgeous views of the city. The sophisticated menu introduces Chinese gourmet to Phoenix like it has never seen: stuffed mushrooms, ahi tuna, even Mongolian ostrich. Of course, if you're an original C-Fu fan, and you're craving a dish the other place offers, just ask. The new C-Fu will oblige.

great dim sum!

by metzstephanie

My husband and I tried C-Fu for our first dim sum experience in the Phoenix area, and we were very happy with the quality and selection of food, and with the service. We have since tried another dim sum restaurant in Phoenix, and we much prefer C-Fu.

  • Pros: variety of food, good parking
