Worst treatment in my life

by happycamper73

I would like to share a disappointing event that happened at a once fabulous beloved Phoenix restaurant. The worst treatment I've ever experienced in a restaurant in my life happened this past Friday at Los Dos Molinos. My fiance and I went to Los Dos for dinner to spend time with old friends. We raved about the food and told them that they would not be disappointed. Well, the only flavors we could taste in the food were red pepper and salt. It was nothing like the food used to be and we were both embarrassed that we had spoken so highly of the restaurant. We ate anyway and each had 2 drinks. Our waiters seemed okay, not nice and not mean. BUT THEN? after we paid our bill, we were finishing up our drinks and chatting about the Christmas holiday. MAYBE 5 minutes after paying, one of the staff rushed to our table and asked us to leave because people were waiting on a table. He did not ask politely and he had a scowl on his face. He flat out asked if we would leave. Oh, let me add that we had just left a 25% tip on a bill that was over $100. We were completely shocked. Our jaws dropped. Had he asked us nicely we would have politely obliged. However, because of his rudeness, I decided to report the mistreatment to a young woman who was a so-called owner. She rudely explained to me that she had told her staff to tell us to leave. She is by far the nastiest ?hostess? I?ve ever been in contact with. I was both shocked and hurt at the rudeness of the owner and her staff. A once legendary respected establishment is now putting their customers on an assembly line out the door. What ever happened to being able to enjoy a nice dinner and a couple of drinks? How sad. Please save yourself the hassle and don?t waste your money on the mediocre food and grossly rude staff.

  • Pros: None
  • Cons: Incredibly Rude Staff & Super Salty Food

You don't know how good you have it until it's gone!!

by winston04

I moved to San Diego six years ago thinking that surely there would be decent, spicy Mexican food available. Boy, was I wrong!! After enjoying Los Dos Molinos for the prior two decades before moving, I had no idea how much I'd miss it. It is by far the best Mexican food around. It's so true... you never know what you had until it's gone!!! I miss you Los Dos:(

  • Pros: the incredibly spicy food

was it ever good?

by southphxeater

Mid-week night, tried the place again after a poor experience a year ago. Left hanging by the door as chaos and anger wafted off the confused and overwhelmed staff. Eventually pushed into a small back room and ignored for a while longer..finally brought menus and ordered drinks....cold bottle beers and undrinkable red wine arrived with the scowling 'manageress'..the food was mostly salty and grisly meats doused in sauce that was novelty hot without depth accompanied by reheated, mediocre rice and beans..oh why go on..miserable place to be avoided at all costs.

  • Pros: close to my house
  • Cons: rude, noisy and bland

It's all about the pibil, baby!

by gokiburisama

The best! I love the chili plates, adovada ribs and roast pork platters. Not to mention the hot as hell salsas -- all great excuses to keep the intoxicating libations flowing to extinguish the flames. Dang, I wish we had New Mexican food in LA. I really miss this place and try and make it each time I'm back in town (or in New York) to visit.

To bravef, stick to your Seatlle Moose joint for your "Mexican" food. Sure, there are places like that in Phoenix, too. You're probably looking for some white-table cloth place like Barrio Cafe that will bring you table-side guacamole and margaritas in cocktail glasses or, the other New Mexican place in town, Richardsons, for its mood lighting. btw, margaritas tend to be on the sweet side, in general. Would you really be surprised to find that a raspberry margarita or prickly pear margarita is a sweet beverage? Anyway, if you've got fire in your belly for quality New Mexican, then ignore bravef -- because Los Dos is the place!

  • Pros: HOT HOT HOT, radical ambiance in South PHX location, friendly management and service
  • Cons: The wait (sometimes)

Slop masked by noise and glam

by bravef

I'm visiting from Portland and the best mexican food I have had is up at Senor Moose Cafe in Seattle. Real plates of food, no burritos, no chips when you sit down.

This place is a joke for mexican food! The drinks were large, sweet, and nothing special. The plates were plain and filled with rice and beans. How did this place ever get best of city search??? A complete sham...the ranch 99 street mexican market was so much better!

  • Pros: nothing really
  • Cons: everything if you are looking for good food, good value

The Mesa Location

by foodqwest

Although I have visited the location on Central, the Mesa location on Alma School north of Broadway is my favorite. It fits my favorite type of restaurant that I classify as "where the locals go." Great food, good service, appropriate atmosphere-they have it all.

  • Pros: always lives up to my expectations
  • Cons: none

Food is still good, service is awful

by alivenaz

How sad to see how empty Los Dos was on a Friday night. We went for a birthday dinner, expecting a long wait and were shocked to walk right in and get a seat. After a few minutes, we realized why. The service was terrible and completely disorganized. Three different people attempted to serve us, all asking the same questions, yet nobody offering refills of drinks. We ordered dessert, but after 15 minutes were told that "they" forgot to put the order in, whoever "they" were. To make matters worse, I left my credit card there and when I called back the next day, nobody answered the phone and two days later, I have yet to have the courtesy of a return phone call. This used to be one of my favorite places, but I am not sure if I will go back. Oh, don't order the sangria. It tastes like grape juice.

  • Pros: spicy food that is really spicy
  • Cons: god-awful service

Please NO separate checks

by dajohnson

I enjoy going to Los Dos weekly for the great salsa and food. Individually, the service is great and although they have pretty good menu variety, I typically order the same entree without even reading the menu. However, I went with a group of friends about a week ago to celebrate a birthday. Apparently they've altered the menu to read "Please NO separate checks". Here we were a group of nine or ten people with a gratuity included bill and the Los Dos staff refused to separate the check. The worst part about the situation was that it took two people from our group thirty minutes to get the staff to take our money. Yes, we had to talk them into taking our money!!!!!

Conclusion: Don't go unless it's the birthday subject's last dying wish and even in that instance, BRING CASH!!!!!!!!!

  • Pros: Great Salsa
  • Cons: Facility is dingy and has a lingering smell

Disgusting!!

by aztammy

Six of us went to Los Dos Molino's last night. This has been a favorite of all but one of ours for years - one was in town visiting and had never been. We raved about it the whole way down there. We told him how super spicy everything was and how great the food is. We were all shocked at how mild the salsas were - I even asked about it, three of us ordered the roasted pork special with green chili (waiter recommended). Everyone's food was so salty that none of us finished our food and no one took home their leftovers. We ordered one piece of tres leches cake to split because they are known for it. It came out with a birthday candle on it for me so they passed it down to me and I saw 3 big green circles on it. IT WAS MOLD!!!! We called the waiter over and showed it to him and he said, "that's not good" and said he'd bring something else. I said, "No, I don't want anything else to eat". I called him over afterwards and told him how totally disappointed we were from start to finish and how we'd raved about the place all the way over, etc., etc. and how embarrassed we were bringing someone...blah blah blah. He apologized and we got our bill which included an 18% gratuity. He didn't even take the moldy cake off the bill!!!! We were so disgusted we didn't even tell him. We just paid and left. We all agreed that we'd never go back again!!! Cross that one off of my "favorites" list.
