a party in my mouth

by louisianadiva at Citysearch

Los Dos Molinos is one of the greatest attractions of the desert. We first found this place when we came to visit AZ and see the surroundings. My husband and I, both Southern Louisiana natives, frequent this place for the HOT and SPICY cuisine! There has never been a delay in our order, nor is the staff rude in any way. This place is a must see for all of our visitors and friends. This is a definite culinary treasure that we will miss when we leave AZ.

  • Pros: food, service, ambience

Not the Typical, Chain Mex Restaurant

by mcmlxix69 at Citysearch

Los Dos Molinos is a great Mexican restaurant! My husband and I have been enjoying Los Dos Molinos for over ten years and haven't had a negative experience. Yes, the owner, is often cranky but then she has to deal with self-appointed Mexican food experts who think PF Chang's is genuine Asian food.

Fresh chips and salsa are quickly replenished as you wait for dinner. The food is flavorful and yes, hot. One weakness is that they don't serve appetizers on the patio while you wait. Speaking of waiting, the best way to experience Los Dos is to go with a group of friends. The wait can be as long as three hours, so spend that time wisely by having a great time with your favorite pals! And yes, the kick-ass margs are served on the patio while you wait!

LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS PLACE

by amymh1 at Citysearch

I have lived here for ten years and have eaten all over az. My husband and I always have to have a los dos fix. To all of you that gave bad reviews-yes, you have to wait- much like any other restaurant in Phoenix with great food, it is privately owned so they can make their own hours and close if they want to at any time, it is NOT a 5 star restaurant but that is part of its charm, I personally have never not once had a service issue and everyone has always been extremely friendly. Perhaps you belong in Snottsdale with the other food and beverage snobs. To everyone else, this is the place to go in Phoenix!

For those who like their food volcano-caliber hot, this local favorite draws them in droves.

In Short
Chef-owner Victoria Chavez makes fresh tortillas every day to accompany her dishes. The labor of love is evident in plates featuring adovado ribs, chimichangas and enchilada dinners. On the weekends, the joint hops with loyal patrons who often order margaritas and then wait for up to two and a half hours for a table.

Los Dos is the BEST!

by doc_von_palko at Citysearch

I grew up in Phoenix -- and my family still resides there. I have dined in Mexican resturaunts all my life. There is none better than Los Dos Molinos. Now I live outside Nashville. Whenever flying back into Phoenix, my travel schedule is arranged so I can arrive at "Sky Harbor" and go directly to Los Dos before anything else. My return flight is booked to allow me to dine there before heading back to the airport. A trip to Phoenix is incomplete without a meal at Los Dos!

  • Pros: Great food , Great service, Great drinks

Los Dos is great

by pvanzandt at Citysearch

The crowds of people who flock to Los Dos Molinos aren't wrong. From the pitcher of "kick ass" margaritas to the braised beef ribs, the food and drink is authentic New Mex. Not everything is firey hot. The tostada, chicken taco, quesadillas and some other wonderful items are mild. But if you want heat, they will bring it. The atmosphere is festive and the service is efficient and accurate. Get there early or be prepared to wait for a very long time. The gate to the courtyard opens at 5:00 pm go early and often.

  • Pros: Great Food, Festive Atmosphere, Easy to find
  • Cons: , Careful of Spicy Hot

awful!

by gueras at Citysearch

Awful is the only word that comes to mind.

I ordered red posole, they brought white posole. I informed them and they threw a spoon of red gunk in it!! It now tasted horrible and was cold! I did't eat it and told the waiter, he merely said "I can't do anything about it". I looked at him and he said " I can get the owner, if you want". After 20 minutes waiting, he passed by and said "did you want me to get the owner?" I informed him that neither of the margarita's ordered were good and were not drank. The strawberry was a lump of syrup. You could barely sip it through a straw! The plain one tasted like some cheap tequilla and left a bitter aftertaste.

I was told to call because the owner was to busy. I tried to call she still couldn't be reached!

  • Pros: none, none, none
  • Cons: , bad margaritas, awful food

Heat for Heat's Sake

by cjguofac at Citysearch

The problem with Los Dos is that they seem to get off by having the spiciest food in town, regardless of flavor. If you make a mistake and taste the wrong thing it will ruin your meal. I do not appreciate heat for heat's sake. I don't mind perspiring because a dish is spicy, however, I do mind suffering. Make no mistake, I like spicy food, this isn't just spicy, it's obnoxious.

The Best of the Best

by guillermo_roberto at Citysearch

Certainly you have to be able to take the heat, but if you can, then this is quite simply the best Mexican food in Phoenix. My family and I have been going since the mid 80s when they were working out of an old Der Wienerschnitzel building. I saw someone complain about the hostess. Sounds like someone from Scottsdale finding out they aren't the center of the universe. Los Dos is hopping on the weekends, be willing to wait and enjoy awesome Margs, your patience will be rewarded. My favorite dish is the Green Chile plate.

Fantastic!

by gregr69 at Citysearch

Out of all the mexican food restaurants I've eaten at, this is by far my favorite and the best in my opinion. I've never left disappointed with food or service. My usual - Chimichanga Adobada w/ red sauce on top. And of course a Margarita (frozen) on the side. I normally prefer on the rocks but here I like the frozen better.
