Shogun is a very good place to eat. they have amazing food and the service is even better. i have come here a lot in the last couple months, and we always ask for the same server, he is recently new but is easily the best server in the restaurant. his name is Josh. he always has our drinks filled and teas hot. he gets the food out in a timely matter, and if there is a hold up for any reason he always comes and lets us know so we are aware of whats going on. i think everyone should give shogun a try, the food/sushi is the best we have had in the valley. the surfer roll is an amazing roll as well as the dec 29 and las vegas rolls. we suggest everyone who goes into shogun to eat to order those rolls and for sure ask for Josh to be your server, you will leave with a smile on your face as he has a great sense of humor. hope this helps
- Pros: best sushi/service in town
- Cons: sometimes sushi takes to long
Go anywhere else! There is a better, cheaper place across the street!

This was the absolute worst sushi restaurant experience I have had in visiting 11 sushi restaurants throughout the valley. It was not too busy the night we went in, however we had to wait 55 minutes before our sushi order was brought to us. It wouldn't have been so bad had they remembered to bring out our appetizers. When the manager brought out the sushi, my wife asked him which one was which. He then went on to name the 6 different rolls that were brought to the table, however, three of the six he got wrong. Due to being pregnant, my wife had to order cooked rolls (ones with no "raw" asterisks next to them), however the roll that was brought out to her contained raw salmon. When she pointed this out to our waiter, he apologized for the menu error and said that he would get her a cooked version. The cooked version he brought out was the same roll that had been burned on the flattop in the kitchen... thanks for taking care of that! By the way... the sushi was rubbery and luke warm, and averaged about $2.50 more per roll that their competition. It lacked flavor throughout each roll, and did not taste fresh. You think you would get better quality since they automatically tack on an extra 5% sushi surcharge. There are a bunch of better places in the local area... errrr... across the street even. Do yourself a favor and avoid this place at all costs.
- Pros: Cold Stone is next door.
- Cons: Everything.
Rockin Sushi, Bomb Drinks

Last weekend we stopped into Shogun Restaurant, as soon as we walked in the friendly staff greeted me. We was given the choice of diningroom, sushi bar, lounge or patio. Since it is so nice outside, we chose to dine on the patio. We ordered sushi and sake bombers, which is the lowest saki bomber price anywhere! The sushi was fantastic. It was a little busy, but worth the wait. Our server was friendly. The patio is nice with a cozy corner fireplace. We had a great evening and we look forward to our next visit!
Great Sushi, Big Portions

I was told by a friend to try this "local sushi place" nearby. I was in the pv mall area and my friend and I decieded to eat at Shogun. We sat in the bar and had a drink while we waited for our table. I had a sake er (beer and sake, you drop the sake cup in the beer and drink both at the same time). My friend had a martini. The drinks were good and the bartender was friendly. We were shortly seated and had a really attentive server named Anna. She made several recommendations for us and told us about a couple of sushi rolls that were favorites of the "regulars". We ate a Surfer Roll that had cooked shrimp on top and was really good. For dinner I ordered the Chicken Katsu and enjoyed the batter that they used. My friend ordered tempura, she LOVES tempura, and she really enjoyed it. Our server explained the different desserts and they all sounded delicious, but we were way to full to eat any more. The portions at Shougn are bigger than any other Japanese restaurant we have eaten at. Shogun has great drinks, great service and great food. It is generous in the portions and the price is right!
Been there once, but that's it!

Our waiter was no where in sight 10 minutes after we got a table. After the meal, manager was staring at us while we walking out of the front door. They don't appreciate customers' business.
- Cons: Bad attitude
Used to be great, but not any more

I live nearby and am a regular customer; I used to go there every weekend by myself, with family, or with friends. It was a nice place to have dinner. On my last visit, things had been changed. We were sitting there with no water and no one show up to our table to take our order; that place wasn't busy at all.
We left and will never go back again. I give two starts was because they used to be nice or I will give it zero star.
- Pros: Good food
Overall excellent restaurant

A long time favorite!! I have been going there for over 20 years now. Fresh sushi and the sushi chefs are awesome! They have a large selection of specialty rolls and they will work with you to meet your tastes. The non sushi items on the menu are good as well. The turkey salad is delicious and huge! The atmosphere is quaint it's more of a neighborhood restaurant. It's not swanky, and you won't be blasted out by loud music compared to others. Also on busy nights the seating wait is never very long. Their prices are reasonable and they have a good happy hour. If you have room for desert, the fried ice cream is very good especially with green tea ice cream!
- Pros: Love it!!
- Cons: none
great time all around !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You know ,I had been to Shogun a few times before and became apprehensive after reading some of the reviews on this site. I even went so far as to call and see what was up !
I went anyway and am soooo glad !! I had a great time ! It was my birthday and we ended up sitting at the bar "drink not sushi". I do not profess to be a "sushi expert" but I know good food and it was GGRRRREATTTTT!!!
The service was good ! We had to wait here and there for a drink or whatever but the girl who took care of us was sweet and did care ,so we could let it slide. She made up for the small lapses in service with her personality and obvious people skills.
We had great conversation with other patrons and just all around got to let our hair down. Shogun is not at all stuffy and uptight. The food is great and the people are real. All in all my kind of place !!!
- Pros: excellent food, good service, great conversation
- Cons: the service is not 5 star ! but neither is the price !
Aye Aye Captian.. time for another Sake Bomber run!

Shogun has been a local favorite of mine for years.. it was the first place I tried real sushi. Flying fish roe with a raw quail egg on top will make 'sexy-time' in your mouth! The standard rolls are fresh and affordable. The staff is friendly and the bartenders have always taken real good care of us. I definitely recommend this place to friends and family visiting from out of town. Good sushi with a 'hole in the wall' feel. Its kind of buried in this huge shopping center.
Plus its a great place to see some of Paradise Valley's finer things (hot milfs with fakies) and has a kicking little happy hour.
- Pros: Great Sushi, Friendly Service, Affordable
Wonderful Turkey Salad

When trying to find a place to take some friends, I came across the reviews for this familiar restaurant. After reading all of them, I feel I must point out the one item that has not yet been commented on... Shogun's Turkey Salad. It is amazing. My husband and I stumbled across it one day when we dropped in to check the place out and ordered a lunch combo. I believe it comes with all the combos, but could be wrong. The point is, though, that it is wonderful. I think it's made with some sort of cabbage, turkey and peanuts, and really good sauce. No description can do it justice, so you will just have to try it for yourself. If you get the Turkey Salad Plate, be prepared to share with someone else and then take some home, because it is a huge portion. Half a plate is enough to share.
The reason I gave this restaurant 4 stars instead of 5 is that, like everyone else has mentioned, their service seems to have gone downhill in the past few years. When we first discovered the place, sunomono salad and tea were brought out automatically, immediately after orders were placed, regardless of whether or not the place was packed. I would say we've been there maybe 8 or 9 times over a span of 8 years. About 4 or 5 years ago, they stopped bringing sunomono salad and tea automatically. You can ask for sunomono salad, and tea, but it doesn't seem to be part of the lunch combo anymore. That is somewhat disappointing. The place has lost some of its charm for that reason, but we will still stop in whenever our craving for their Turkey Salad gets the best of us.
- Pros: Good food, comfortable booths
- Cons: No frills, average service
