DUCKS, BIRTHDAY PARTIES, BIRDWATCHING
by diegogarcia
In the 40s and 50s my grandpa and I used to feed ducks at the lagoon, and my mama used to give me great birthday parties at Kiddieland. When I was a boy, I was quite interested in birdwatching, and Encanto Park was great for that activity. I left Phoenix in 1989. I hope the dear old park is clean and healthy.
Regards.
We liked it and will go back!

I can't say that this is the most beautiful park I've ever been to or the cleanest, but it was fun. My husband, three year old son and I, went there on a weekend, early in June?late afternoon. The main reason was to take our son to Enchanted Island, the amusement park. They have kiddy rides at Enchanted Island?the metallic sparkled ones that I use to ride as a kid, but restored and in good working order. BTW, they are open on the weekends?in June from 5pm to 10pm, when it's cooler out. See their online schedule.
We left the amusement section of the park and went for a paddle boat ride. There is trash in the water. I won't swim or fish in it, but it's fine for paddle boating. Overall a park with a lot of things to keep a three year old and his family busy.
- Pros: Lots of things to do.
- Cons: A little dirty
Dirty, filthy, run down and horrible.

Encanto Park is horrible. The place is covered in trash. The river is so dirty I am surprised the ducks swim in it. Everything is run down and broken. It's not a nice park anymore as it used to be. Definitly not a family park. The last time my family and I went there is the last time. Never again. City of Phoenix needs to clean it up. Dont waste your time going there.
- Pros: Dirty, filthy, trashy, complete waste of time.
- Cons: None.
Smack dab in the middle of downtown Phoenix, this park offers a stunning array of recreational choices.

In Short
Enjoy everything from canoeing and paddle boating to swimming, picnicking and tennis--all in 80 acres of prime downtown real estate. Picnic tables and barbecue grills are abundant--an ideal spot for a family's Saturday afternoon out. Fishing is allowed, with a city fishing license from the boat-rental docks on the northern end of the park. A public nine-hole golf course is a hidden treasure, just north of the boat docks. On the southern side of the park, an Olympic-size public swimming pool is a great escape from the heat. Tennis courts and baseball fields also are near the pool.
An oasis of beauty in the middle of the city.

You need to look for the park to find it, I'd say get directions of the internet, but it is worth it. The park has everything you would think a family park should have. It was spacious with green grass and trees (both uncommon is the desert!). The pond was beautiful with an island in the middle that had a large man-made waterful cascading down, tropical trees around it - Perfect background for a picture. There were waterways throughout the park, and little bridges that you could fish from if you like. Plenty of picnic and atheletic areas, another island that you could picnic on or reserve for a special occasion. There were two weddings on the day that I went, a tribute to the parks beautiful atmosphere. Everything seemed so peaceful and welcoming. It was also clean, I do not remember seeing litter. I went on the weekend during the month of June so it was hot and therefor not many people. The kiddie-land and amusements were closed on the weekend so if that is what you are looking to incorporate in your day then plan a trip during the week. There is so much to do, as listed in the parks description, combined with its beauty that I would definately recommend a picnic here!!

This park in its hayday was a fun place to take the whole family! That was then. Now it is filled with loud music and cruisers, the water that the ducks swim in is polluted. At night, but on many days, the homeless camp out on thier benches to catch a few winks. I would not reccomend this park for tourists. There are many other beautiful sites to see in the area.

What a great place to take the whole family. I have so many happy memories of Encanto Park. I can't go there without thinking of Wallace and Ladmo.
