Fantastic hike - best view in Phoenix
by cdeutme
I was in Phoenix only four days and did this hike twice. It was a fantastic climb to the top. A bit challenging which made it fantastic. The way down isn't as pleasant and requires a slow-go. The view at the top is amazing with no obstructions. Everyone on this hike is so very friendly and dog friendly as well. Be sure to bring your pooch some water. It will be needed.

- Pros: many pros

Each year, more than 300,000 hikers looking to escape the city are generously rewarded here.

In Short
Don't let the gradual beginning of the 1.2-mile Echo Canyon Trail fool you; a narrow ridge leads to two steep rises where steel handrails help you ascend to a short but welcoming saddle. From there, the climb can be grueling, with few level sections. Those who have the endurance to reach the peak are accomplishing one of the valley's most challenging feats. Reaching the summit rewards hikers with a 360-degree view of the Sonoran Desert. The Cholla Trail is slightly longer, less crowded and more of a gradual incline. The rock formations aren't as dramatic, but the view from the saddle is a treat. From there, the trail becomes steeper and more difficult to navigate.
Conquered Camelback

This hike is perfect for hikers between the beginner and experienced level. Experienced hikers will find the hike to be fairly easy. However, if you're looking to challenge yourself, to exercise those legs, and to enjoy the Arizona outdoors and view at top, then I would recommend the hike. Certain parts are fairly steep, so take your time. It can get crowded, but fellow hikers are friendly and considerate. Don't forget the water!
- Cons: Limited parking
Relax at the Beautiful Park
by lonnamaria
Echo canyon is beautiful!!! You can relax at the park, or exercise by climbing up the beautiful sculptured mountain......Surrounded by some of the cities most beautiful homes......it is worth a visit.
- Pros: free!, good for exercising, good location
- Cons: small park, can be dangerous, weather in summer
Great city view
by BObermiller_Citysearch
One of the most crowded hikes in Arizona, but the terrain and view at the top make it worthwhile. This isn't an ideal hike for young children or the elderly, as scrambling is required in steep sections. For an easier hike with equally stunning city views, try Squaw Peak. Parking on the Echo Canyon side is horrible, expect to walk at least a 1/2 mile on weekends.
- Pros: Great views
- Cons: Crowded, Not enough parking
