Tips for Big City BBQ

Went to eat some great BBQ this evening 2/22/09 and found the restaurant closed up and their phone number out of service! !I. Oh no!!! Did the current economic downturn turn them down? Where can I get my bbq fix? I guess I'll have to try Stacy's Smokehouse on 16th St and Indian School in Phoenix.

Good, Fun place. I enjoy barbeque and enjoyed my visit here tried ribs of course and some of their pork both were good and tender but lacked the flavor I'm accustomed to. I recommend trying the ribs and brisket.

All together satisfactory. Now normally I don't go for something heavy like BBQ, but today I wanted ribs. This was our first trip to the Big City BBQ and we thoroughly enjoyed our visit. One waitress was manning the entire dining area, tending bar, and playing cashier and doing it all with a smile and polite small talk. She was also very knowledgeable about all of the different meats and suggested a cheaper way to order my entree and sides. I got my ribs which were very thick with a lot of meat and heavily coated in sauce. My creamed corn was very sweet and good and the candied yams were like dessert. For luck and prosperity in the new year, they were offering free sides of black eyed peas or greens with every drink purchase. Now I'm not a big fan of greens, but these were salty and seasoned so they were very palatable. We saw several regulars come in, several of whom ordered take-out. The only thing I disliked was the fact that there were three TVs on?first on the game and then on America's Funniest Home Videos. The restaurant kept on filling up even though when I called I was told that they were going to close early. I'll be sure to tell my BBQ-loving friends about Big City BBQ.

this is REAL BBQ with soul!. I've eaten at both locations and they are equals. Portions are generous, especially the sides. Best fried okra this side of the Mississippi as well as the mixed greens and candied yams. Their smoked meats are tender and flavorful. I love the pork, to me pig is king! Baby back ribs and pulled pork are fabulous. Their desserts are more than outstanding, try an order of the sugar biscuits if there are at least 3 of you, I'm not kidding, you get 10 of them. I've lived in KY and TN, this is the real deal!

Hell to the Naw!!. I went to "Big City" for the first time for take-out lunch. I ordered the pulled chicken sandwich combo with fries because I'm thinking, "There's no way to mess up a BBQ chicken sandwich. It's either going to be just alright, very good, or somewhere in between." Hell-to-the-naw!!

That was the worst BBQ I've ever had in my life. The sauce was messed up with too much spices and flavors going on (y'all doing too much), the fries were seasoned well but overcooked and crunchy than a mugg, and the service was sub-par. Folks working in the restaurant acted like they didn't want to speak when I walked in.

I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone who has ever had good BBQ before. Unless you'd like to spend the rest of your day on the toilet!

Editorial Review. Casual barbecue joint serves smoked ribs, pulled pork, hot links and beef brisket with corn bread, beans and fried okra.

All hype. After reading how good this place was, I really expected a great experience. No such luck. The food was fair, service terrible, I will not try again.

Friendly Staff. Great place for bbq with friendly atmosphere. The staff were awesome! The food were excellent and the price were just right, not too expensive nor cheap. I highly recommend the bbq bisket sandwich and their pork ribs with spicy bbq sauce.
