Editorial Review for Mastros Ocean Club Fish House – by Brian Obermiller
In Short
The Mastro Group's seafood restaurant in North Scottsdale's uber-popular Kierland Commons is a sprawling space featuring huge tables covered with white linens, wrought-iron chandeliers and a stylish piano bar. The vanilla-battered shrimp appetizer features three juicy, freakishly large butterfly shrimp with sharp cocktail sauce. True to Mastro's steakhouse roots, the petite filet (eight ounces) remains a constant crowd pleaser, but leave room for baked Alaska, a sweet treat dowsed in flaming Bacardi 151.

I had dinner here Thursday night. My colleague and I had the Seafood Tower with shrimp, oysters, snow crab claws & Alaskan king crab for our appetizer. It was so huge that we couldn't finish even half of it. It's a shame because it was so good. I had the Alaskan king crab and it was very good. I had a piece of my colleague's filet & it was outstanding. It was the best filet I've ever had, very tender and flavorful. The server was very attentive and the overall service was great. I highly recommend Mastro's Ocean Club for seafood and steak.
Pros: great seafood, steak, ambience & service

I've been to this place twice, mixed results. But just this last weekend to the Mastro's Steakhouse on Camelback at Scottsdale Rd; nice place, great bar scene, very much the hot spot and good bartenders but.. bad service from the hostess on down, really expensive food that was not any better than.. geez, buffet stuff. $14 special house salad was some shrimp in lettuce with what tasted like mayo dressing, room temperature.. ugh. 3 other appetizers the same results, we could barely eat it; passed on their $45 each steaks. They do a 3x markup on by the bottle wine, ok fine, for the visuals and the scene there I'm ok with that. Go, see and be seen, but eat somewhere else, plenty of good choices nearby.
Pros: see and be seen spot for 'mixers' and singles
Cons: overpriced uneven quality food
