The atmosphere is cool and it is full of beautiful people. If you are into seeing and being seen this is the place. If you are into good food and good service there has to be better places in AZ. So, lets start at the beginning. Our reservation was for 6:15, at 6:30 we started asking about our table, we were told they were short-handed. At 7:00 we were seated. We ordered our drinks, appetizers and dinner at the same time because they were busy. As our sushi appetizer came out so did the sushi dinner someone ordered. When I asked why they would bring his dinner at the same time as the appetizers I was told that it was made by a different chef. After getting most of our appetizers (the rest never came) we started getting our entrees. When one of our party didn't get his I complained at was told that it was coming. After 10 minutes I complained to the manager and was told "sorry one of our grills is broken" but then he left and never came back. After another 15 minutes I complained the manager again and was told sorry again. I suggested he go in the kitchen himself, find something and take care of his customer. Again he disappeared. Finally the waiter went in and waited for the dish to be prepared, at total of 30 minutes later. As a form of apology the manager offered us free dessert. Big deal. When it came we just let it sit. Finally the manager brought the bill himself with a substantial discount. It helped but they have a long way to go to restore our faith in them.
Pros: Atmosphere, great people watching.
Cons: Food, service, excuses

Sapporo's is in a great location and is a beautiful space, with soaring ceilings and lovely bamboo floors. It's crowded and popular, and the food is genuinely excellent. The sushi is always fresh and well-presented, and the service is quick. Even the desserts are delicious, which is not something you can always count on at a sushi restaurant. The only thing I don't like about it is that it's also a meat market, a see-and-be-seen sort of place full of noisy, plastic Scottsdale people flipping their overprocessed hair and Blackberry-ing each other across the table. That's usually kept to the front of the restaurant, however, and you can usually get a quiet table farther back in the restaurant where you can concentrate on the food and company.
Pros: Delicious sushi and desserts
Cons: Loud, crowded, and artificial in some parts of the restaurant
