Pepin Needs Help. Saturday night, not a good time for restaurants. The place was mostly empty, although we were there for an early dinner at 6:30 with friends who had been there before. Too dark to read the menu. Ordered a pitcher of Sangria for the table - watered down excessively. Times are tough - the bartender was waiting tables. Flamenco guitar and dancing did not seem appropriate for a dining venue. Perhaps if they had a separate bar? The paella was basic chicken and rice topped with a couple of overcooked shrimp, clams and mussels. It's tough in this economy, but $32 for sangria and the same for what passed for paella is outrageous. Not closed yet, but without some major changes, it may be soon.
NOT WORTH THE WAIT!.
This poor experience took us two hours to get through. The food was cold and bland. The two waiters were running constantly trying to keep up, to no avail! The owners/managers never acknowledged any customer all night. We had to ask for the check twice and that still took us 1/2 an hour to get. The only good thing was the flamenco music and dancing!
This place advertises a lot and I'm sure they would have even more customers if they would take care of their customers! HIRE SOME HELP!!!!
Or let me run this place for you and really turn it into a gold mine!
We'll never be back as long as they own this place!
Awful.
We went to this restaurant before a performance at the Performing Arts Center. It was a truly awful experience. The place has a shabby look and feel; for example, the cutlery was extremely cheap, mismatched, and very scratched.
The Sangria tasted like mint gum and they overcharged for it on the bill compared to the price on the menu. They forgot the bread to our table also.
The food was not hot, expensive and uninteresting. The server was unfriendly, rushed and hard to understand.
We asked about the advertised flamenco dancing and were told it would be at 7:15. The dancer never showed up for work! Some amateurs got up on the stage and it was really pathetic.
Don't waste your time or money at this place.
DON'T WAISTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY...........
Rude management!!
went for dinner got there at 9pm there was a cover charge of $10 never been at a restaurant where they charge to have dinner once they see your bill that you did eat they credit your bill, one of my friends had only drinks, she is dieting so she had to pay the cover just to be there while we eat our meals, food was ok nothing to brag about, too spensive, we had to ask for our forks after they had served us, then in the midle of our meal they realise they had forgot to bring our bread, wich it was cold and hard,
very Unproffesional, owner or managers RUDE
DJ MUSIC is the only good thing there, dance floor too small, bathroms run down and dirty and too small,
we where there till 10:30 only because it took long to get our food .
Makes me wonder how many people they rip off as they drink and dance after their meals and forget to get their cover credited to their bill, they will not unless you ask and then keep reminding them till they do, keep you hard earn money, this place is not a great place is a will do, WE WILL NOT EVER GO THERE NOR RECOMEND IT .. my 1 star is for the DJ ONLY
I guess you go there for the dancing only. My wife and I went during open hours and there was no one there. No one. The one staff person behind the bar didn't bother to offer to welcome us or otherwise help, I guess preparing for the big rush. And this was a weekday, normal dinner hours, the restaurant directly across from Pepin was packed. I understand from the writeups that there is a happy hour and later is dancing. I guess we arrived somewhere in the middle, you know, when we actually wanted to just have dinner. Whatever. It was open and no one could be bothered to help. We won't try a second time.
Go there, you'll like it..
I was born in Spain and I lived in Scottsdale for 12 years, and now San Francisco. Safe to say, I know good Spanish cuisine.
Pepin's food is authentic and tastes the same as my grandma from Spain would cook.
Go there, you'll like it.
Great salsa dancing. We went to dinner on a Friday night for a girls night out, and had plans to go elsewhere afterwards, but once we realized they were clearing the tables for salsa dancing, we decided to stay. The paella and sangria were great with dinner, and the salsa dancing was fun. There were a number of professional dancing couples there who were fun to watch, but by no means was everyone an expert. I would definitely go again.
Spanish stomping ground serves up entertainment as fiery as the food..
In Short
Nestled among the hipster hangouts surrounding the Civic Center, here's an alternative to the typical Scottsdale club scene. In this sassy setting, the young and energetic mix easily with the seasoned salsa zealots. Go to relax, watch a Flamenco show, or kick up your own dancing shoes. The menu is packed with fresh seafood and rich sauces, and the famous paella is big enough to share.
Rude Service. Went to Pepin's last night for Salsa dancing. The cashier and security guard were VERY RUDE. In fact, would not give them a single dime of my money in the future. Frankly, the club was ok and certainly didn't live to the hype that I've heard. Don't waste your time and money at this place.
