Tips for Siam Orchid

January 26, 2013

We were excited about having Thai food for dinner tonight and decided to try some place new instead of our usual favorite place. Based upon the reviews, we had high expectations. We were sorely disappointed. We got phad thai, cashew chicken, and panang curry. Every single dish was flat and flavorless. We are incredibly disappointed that we spent $33 plus tax and had to force ourselves to eat it just to not waste the money (yes, it was that bad).

Thirty-eight years military and I’ve been around. The Pad Thai is as close to authentic Thailand as you'll ever get. Wife loved the Curry. We found our Thai restaurant in Gilbert.

Best Thai in AZ. Been to almost every Thai food place in Tempe, Mesa, and Chandler. This is by far the best. As a previous chef for 8 years (including a yoga resort) with plenty of experience in curries, Siam Orchid produces quality flavorful curries and foods.

As good as ever!. We have been eating at Siam Orchid since they opened and have never been disappointed with the food or the service. We were there again last night. We go at least every two weeks, and this time took some people who had never eaten Thai food before. They loved it and commented that now they understand why we prefer Thai to Chinese. Two more converts!!!

Tired Thai rehash. I had seafood combo soup and a curry ... the waiter/owner never asked how spicy we want it and taste was utterly bland. Curry was OK. Decor a rather nauseating pink with fake plastic flower arrangement and a giant cardboard cutout of a smiling Thai woman that looks like it was stolen from airline. Place looked clean, but I had a touch of intestinal distress following morning.. could have been from the clams which might not have been the restaurant's fault. Honestly I didn't expect much from a hole-in-the-mini mall place and of course it's in the wasteland of Gilbert (sorry, but that town is just a baby factory) but a little more flavor and paint job would earn this place three stars. I have to keep in mind that every restaurant in Phoenix area has cook staff that are mexican, so it's up to the owner to really put some degree of authenticity into the meal. I'm no expert on Thai food but I did spend a month in the country.... you're better served by some Thai restaurants in Chandler and Tempe. Good luck on your culinary adventures.

Excellent Food. I was visiting the area for the first time and saw the great reviews for this restaurant. It truly is as good as the reviews say it is! The atmosphere is not the draw but the flavor and portions of the food are perfect. The service was just as good as the food too. All around wonderful restaurant!

Best Thai Food. They have the best thai soup, Tom Kai Gai, coconut milk, lemon grass , spicy sweet flavors...yum. The owners are super friendly. We are regulars. The coconut ice cream is good too.

This the gem real foodies are looking for.. If you want "Glam Thai" then go somewhere else ... but if you want outstandingly delicious food in a "real" environment from exceptionally nice people then Siam Orchid is the place for you.

The food is authentic, delicately prepared, and pefectly portioned. I'll put it this way, this place is so good and the people are so nice I want them to be tremendously successful. And on the flip side this place is so good I don't want anybody to know about it but me!

Editorial Review. Independent, family-owned Thai restaurant serves Pad Thai, barbecue spare ribs, egg rolls, curry, fried rice and sweet-and-sour soups.
