Best Mexican Food in Arizona. Tacos el Grullo is a "whole in the wall" type of restaurant with exceptional authentic Mexican food. If you love Mexican food, you've got to try this place! The restaurant is located on Main Street between Stapley Drive and Mesa Drive. Unlike Filibertos, Salsitas and other Mexican restaurant chains, it is cheaper and their food is of much better quality and all fresh. My family and I have been eating here since I was 9 years old! Over the course of 11 years the restaurant has changed its location 3 times (always close to the last one). Unfortunately, the last move, was a down-size. The building Tacos el Grullo is currently in is extremely tiny. I definitely would not recomend eating there with a large group because it is already way overcrowded! I've tried several dishes here from Chile Rellenos, to Hand-breaded Shrimp. Everything I've tried has been delicious! Some other foods they have on their menu are Tortas, Menudo, Enchiladas, Tacos, and really any other kind of Mexican food you can think of. They also serve desserts such as Flan Strawberries & Cream, and Churros. My favorite food at Tacos el Grullo is a burrito with Lengua (Cow Tongue), Sour Cream, Rice, Beans, and Cheese. Lengua is a soft, tender meat that "melts in your mouth." Its juicyness is like no other! Another thing I love about this burrito is the tortilla. Its smooth and fluffy. family owned and operated so you get that family feel when you eat here. They speak both English and Spanish. Do not let the building or location deceive you. Tacos el Grullo is the best Mexican food in Arizona!!!!
