Over-Rated Chain.
Took a drive from Central/Downtown Phoenix to RockBottom in Glendale this past Sunday afternoon (NFC play-off day and the 1st of Muharram.
Hardly anyone there but those that WERE there had more than enough children to supply the 1.65 per couple mandate and let their little wads run loose and wreak havoc upon the vacant video machines.
The place was clean, greeters could have cared less about us. We sat at the bar and drank & ate.
Brews were OK, nothing special 'cept the Fallen Angel! Served in a brandy glass this brew was reminiscent of hard cider; fruity taste with the small carbonation bubbles and strong, somewhat acid taste.
Should've gotten it for desert!
The American Pale was bitter. If it was brewed more as a British IPA, it may have been better. Chinook hops would've helped it out a bit.
The Heffeweizen was weak and non descript and left no lace on the glass. It deserved far more spicing.
The food offering was not as extensive as the website says, but a caveat says, *"MAY NOT BE AVAILABLE IN ALL LOCATIONS." Mea Culpa, my bad....I was looking for the French Dip (but I think he sat accross from us carping about the availability of a certain brown ale).
The pulled pork was textbook and small with too much fried potato on the side. The Cobb Salad was said to be very good, but needed more Bleau cheese dressing.
The Publican (BarKeep) was affable but tended to spend his time with the regulars, talking sports than tending to needs of the rest of the clientel.
Now I can say I've been there, but have been to the one in Boston, too, when it was DeJa Brew and now Rock Bottom. Much better in all categories, esp the ice coated, copper bar!!!!!!!!!!!
BTW: Brew Pub does not = Family Restaurant!
