As a native NYer, I know my pizza, and Vito's has made a Chicago-style convert of me. Their thin crust is pretty good too, but their thick, sauce-laden deep dish is a work of art, a deeply-satisfying and filling evening meal (which is why their only being open evenings is correct.). Not cheap, but actually a bargain when you compare it in weight of ingredients to any other pizza in town. I have the advantage of living relatively close, and have probably been there over 50 times in the past decade or so. I call ahead to order, show up when they say it will be ready, but almost always have to sit and wait another 15-30 minutes because "We're busy." (They are busy EVERY night, so this should not be a suprise, but something they can prepare and staff for.) In all that time, I have never been offered a complimentary small soda while waiting, or gotten an apology. While the service is businesslike, it isn't what you would call friendly or accommodating ... kind of like a pizza version of the Soup N*** from Seinfeld (We have the best pizza, you want our pizza, you have to wait until we say it is ready.) I'd likely go more often than once every couple of months, if that were not the case. I give the food a five, the service a two, but the food is more important, so I rate them a four overall.
Pros: Pizza like heaven, especially the Chicago style deep dish
Cons: Service not their strong suit

So, right there tells you, he/she/it is no foodie. I am. My family has been going to Vito's for years. I love it and go there for the thick crust. It's great pizza. A hole in the wall, divey (not dirty) great pizza joint.
