Editorial Review for Gammage Auditorium – by Kathleen Vanessian
In Short
Some locals irreverently refer to the Frank Lloyd Wright-designed auditorium as "the lollipop building." That's because this acoustically near-perfect theater and concert hall looks as if its roof was plopped atop a ring of gargantuan lollipops, a look inspired by Wright's 1957 design for the Baghdad Opera House. From Broadway hits and top classical, pop and jazz acts to lectures by celebrities such as author Carlos Fuentes, civil-rights activist Coretta Scott King and actress Mary Tyler Moore, this venue is one of the most reliable in the Valley when it comes to quality entertainment.
