My husband and I wanted to try a new Thai restaurant and found the Siamese Cat. We ordered red curry and a red noodle dish. We did not even eat the food, we left andwent to Yupai on Elliot and McClintock which is much better. Just beware, the reviews were mostly positive so we were open to it. But it was not good and I would not go back.
Every time we come to Tempe we stop in for the great soups and vegetarian specials. The lunch specials are especially good and well priced. You know you are eating something that is freshly made and the owners are exceptionally friendly.
I have had thai everywhere from San Fran to NYC and I love this place also. It's family run and the people are wonderful. I have tried many many places here in phoenix and still keep going back. Can't get Panang like this anywhere. I just wish it were in a location that got more traffic.
Very good food.
I came across Siamese Cat by accident and decided to try it out with my boyfriend. Although the restuarant was in a bad location, the inside was cozy and cute. We tried a couple of dishes (can't really remember what) but we both loved it. It was authentic and very flavorful. The price was right and service was great. I highly recommend this place.
Siamese Cat Thai restaurant. Excellent Thai food.
This is not a super fancy place, but considering the reasonable cost, friendly and efficient service, great food and low key ambiance I have to give this place 5 stars. The lady serving us told me that this restauarnt had been around for 25 years - so it seems to have done well in a very competitive market. Strange that this was my first time despite having lived in Tempe for nearly 20 years.
What was really nice was that they had several good choices for vegetarians. One of us had the Yellow curry in coconut milk with tofu, cabbage, water chestnuts, potato, carrots and onions vegetables in a light yellow curry sauce - boy was that very tasty.
The price was very reasonable ($21 +tip) for a shared starter and 2 x entrees. We chatted to the lady and she was kind enough to give us a discount for our next visit..
The restaurant was fairly busy on a Friday night with a typical cosmopolitan Tempe crowd, but we were able to get a seat right away. The folks at the next table were trying the various deserts, but unfortunately I'm trying to lose weight - maybe next time....The Sangkhaya Coconut custard - a Thai custard made with coconut cream) looks good. We will definately add this to our list of great local restaurants.
Awesome Food, Great Prices.
I first stumbled Siamese Cat by accident and boy am I glad I did. The service is fast, the staff is friendly, and most importantly, the food is excellent and completely authentic. From the soups to the curries to the desserts, every dish I've tried has impressed me. This is the best Thai food around hands down and the prices won't break the bank. Lunch prices are competitive and you can easily get dinner for under $10 a person if you don't go overboard. I could easily eat there everyday.
The only downside I can think of is that the location could be better (it'll take a little work to reach if you're coming from the wrong direction).
Overall, Siamese Cat has some of the best Thai Food in the valley at very reasonable prices.
I recently moved here from Seattle where there is a plethora of excellent Thai restaurants. If this is the best Thai in Phoenix, then Phoenix doesn't know what it's missing. I had a red curry dish, which tasted more like fish sauce and not at all like curry. It had no flavor or spice to it. My husband had the pad thai, and that also greatly lacked in flavor. Maybe we caught them on a bad night, but I left very unsatisfied. On the plus side, the service was good and the prices were reasonable...but that's about it.
What a Find!.
The best Thai food in Phoenix in possible the worst location in the Valley? Saimese Cat is my new Thai favorite, hidden deep in a strip mall off Baseline and 101 (Price is the 101 Frontage road, but it only goes one-way, the wrong way). I almost gave up trying to find this place, but called them for directions. Three of us tried a half dozen items, all spectacular. Next time we will come in force and we try many more, although I don't know that we will ever get through this extensive menu.
