In Short – Burgers come in three sizes, from quarter-to half-pound patties, and are topped (or not) with American, Swiss or jalapeno jack cheese. There's also a condiment bar where customers can doctor their burgers with a variety of fixings. Dine in or take it to go.
The best darn hamburguers I have tried in Phoenix.
by SarayB
Well, I think I am over doing the headline!
Let's see. Ordering in a weekend or a busy time is as you walk in is a challenge to patience, but come'n, you have to wait either sitting down or standing up, right?
Guac & bacon plus Tijuana torpedo are the ones we ALWAYS order, plus the fries of course. Our probably above 1,000 carbs makes us guilty but that's why you have all those mountains around to burn those calories. Well, what's in a hamburguer that is healthy if not for the lettuce, tomato and peppers?
As we reach the cashier and pay first, we get our order in a fashion manner, sit down and eat.
- Pros: Good hamburguers, loved the pepper and guacamole adds.
- Cons: Good luck if packed.
Where's Ponch?
by ARROD
I reemmber when the Chuck Box was owned and operated by Ponch and his
son w/ the rest of the family. It never needed advertising, because the food was
so good. Now it appears to be a little more commericalized and gimmicked.
I think I'd be very disappointed. I hope Ponch and his son Ponch Jr are still
doing well...it's been many years since I thought of the Chuck Box, but I'm
sure he'd still remember Carl L, Nino, and the bunch that used to leave work
and run to the Warehouse across teh street..where Ponch would not hire
anyone who was a past present or future employee of...it was alot of fun back then.
The restaurant was clean..and the food was awesome..pitchers of beer were
ice cold...
Great burgers, but dirty restaurant
by ASUgrad81
I went to Chuckbox after not having been there for probably 20+ years. I used to eat there a lot when I was a student at ASU in the late '70's. I was excited to eat there after so long, but I was disgusted by the fry cook, first off. He had a cell phone right next to the grill that he kept picking up and texting on (we all know how germy those cell phones are!) and then he would proceed to handle the hamburger buns with his bare hands. Also, the condiment bar was bare, to say the least, and didn't look very clean, either. The hamburger was tasty, but I was afraid I might get sick after eating there. Luckily, I didn't, but I was disappointed that it wasn't more clean. I think if a Health Dept. official had walked in right then, he or she would have closed the place down on the spot! Too bad, because the hamburgers are still yummy!
- Pros: Delicious chargrilled burgers
- Cons: Dirty restaurant and unsanitary fpractices of ry cook
