We decided to celebrate my wife's birthday at House of Tricks. We told our guest from Holland and Canada how great it has always been....

On the 19th of April that was not true. We ordered drinks and after some time placed our order... and waited for over 30 minutes for the soups and salads. The soap was not warm... and we shared that with the waiter.

After another long wait we received the main courses.... again food was not at a good temperature. We again shared that with the waiter when he ask... how is everything. His response was a no response... just walked away.

I hope the owners stop celebrating 25 years and get back to managing what has been a great place to eat.

please. this place is the worst ever - our food was undercooked and disgusting. the service was terrible - very rude and unresponsive. go here if you want to have a terrible evening. house of tricks shouldn't be on any "romantic" restaurants list.

Don't sit inside. I went a few weeks back, by myself probably around 5 pm. They have a great patio but for some dumb reason I sat inside. The inside is small and includes the kitchen where the wait staff tends to congregate. They didn't have their a/c at full blast when I first arrived. I was treated to conversations between the servers plans for later that night, and the added bonus of hearing the servers kicking open the front door everytime they walked out the front door.

My server was awesome and professional, but the busboy was a little off. Untucked shirt and a tendancy to slam down drinks and food on the table. Ok in a casual restaurant but considering they have white tablecloths, the servers are in aprons and ties, it just didn't fit in.

The food was ok. Prior to my meal I had a piece of bread from the complimentary bread basket. Skip it. I had a $7 ceaser salad that was delish. For an entree I had the $24 homeone pasta (tagliatelli?) with the fennel sausage. The portion was big but I just thought it was "eh". $2 for a lemonade (I don't drink so can't speak about the wine menu). $38 w/tip.

Great dining experience. We went to Tricks with a group of friends for an evening out w/o the kids. While rather pricey, the food was superb as was the dining experience. The portions were not huge, and that is to my liking for not overeating. I would definitely eat there again. Any chance they'll open up on in Queen Creek?

A romantic oasis in the heart of Tempe offers gourmet twists on familiar fare.. In Short
This converted 1920s bungalow provides a romantic backdrop for an eclectic menu. A large outdoor fireplace serves as the centerpiece of the grapevine-covered patio, and a number of cozy tables are located within the house's brightly colored rooms. A variety of fresh fish dishes are available paired with sides such as fragrant jasmine rice or saffron-infused potatoes. Save room for desserts like mild chocolate cake punched up with mousse-like cinnamon-chocolate frosting.

ASU Grad. After living in Tempe for nearly five years I have finally found a restaurant that serves exciting, sensational, tasty food. What a great place to relax with a glass of wine under the huge trees and misters at the outdoor bar. I can't wait to show Mom and Dad I really do have good taste buds.

Mr. I had a group reservation there and they could not have been more unpleasant to deal with. They did not seat us on time, they could not figure out how to get drinks to the group once they were waitiing and their host was awful.

This was an unpleasant experience and I could never suggest anyone go to this restaurant. Customer service is not a word that is understood here.

expect something different. Tricks provides the atmosphere, style, and elegance of an old Eurpean cafe mixed with the attitude and style of an elite independently owned American resaurant. Tricks completes a circuit of independently owned businesses in Tempe that add character and individuality to our town. Tempe is quickly becoming overrun by corporate restaurants that condition the average customer to expect mediocrity delivered at a fast pace. Tricks on the other hand allows its cutomers to slow down, enjoy a drink in the garden, while waiting for a table or thier food. Go with no expectations and relax.

ok. The atmosphere was light and romantic, but the food didn't knock my socks off. It definitely falls under ordinary, no better, no worse.
