Editorial Review for Gordon Biersch Brewery Restaurant – by Citysearch Staff
In Short
Airy, industrial decor lends a lighter, more urban feel to Gordon Biersch than most beer halls. The bar may get crowded after 5pm, when a happy-hour crowd hoists a few pints of seasonal Bavarian-influenced beers. A menu of fusion and New American dishes include beer-friendly offerings like shrimp and chicken pot stickers, Moroccan-spiced lamb chops and the signature garlic french fries.

Insider Tips
What to DrinkThe seasonal beer menu has three constants: a hoppy pilsner; an auburn, slightly sweet marzen; and a malty, dark dunkles. True to German form, centuries-old "purity" laws are followed, meaning only hops, barley, yeast and water are used.
The ExtrasGordon Biersch specializes in hosting large parties. Call ahead for details.

My friends and I headed out on a Wednesday night. Never having gone out on Mill St.. we were excited to see what there was to offer. Of course we needed some food, so at 10:45pm we expected our options to be minimal. We walked upstairs to see no one at the Hostess stand, oh wait, there was a tiny girl with a HUGE attitude. We asked if they were still serving food. She yawned, and nodded yes- which obviously took great effort on her part. Sweet right? No. Our party of 6 sits down in the bar area, and after a minute we ask the bartender if we can get some menus, and tells us, "No, we are closing in 5 minutes." We were momentarily confused, and then realized the poor twit at the hostess stand must have left her entire brain at home. As we walk back down the stairs, she says "Have a great night!" I, not at all subtly said, hey guess what, you're closing. Thanks for nothing. This is what makes or breaks a restaurant. The first person you see when you walk in the door will play a BIG part on whether you return or not, and guess what Gordon.. not coming back, ever.

First encounter took Wisconsin visitors. All tried something different, but after seeing and then tasting the burger ordered by one among us, all wish they would have ordered that from the outset. Comment from one Wisconsin visitor, "I thought I had already tasted the best burger ever. It doesn't even compare." Now add the best garlic fries and an icy brew for true nirvana. In n Out doesn't even come close!
Pros: Menu selection, Timely Service, Good Value
Cons: , Can be warm
