Dear Management: Please please please urge your employees not to smoke illegal drugs on the job. I don't care what or why they use drugs recreationally - at all, however, I do care when it ruins our family-dinner-out. I decided to treat my parents, boyfriend, brother & sister to a dinner anywhere they wanted tonight. They chose Nello's. I will not forgive them - this place is terrible. Monday nights are this slow at all restaurants, right? ... Nope, there is a reason no one is here. We ordered a ton of food: bruschetta, wings, specialty pizzas, house/garden salads, tiramisu and cannolis. My brother really enjoyed the wings and my mom enjoyed the bruschetta, which was more like cheesy bread, but whatever. The rest of the meal was pretty unremarkable but mostly terrible. It took a painfully long time for any of it to come out, we didn't mind at all though because we were hanging out. When it comes to the menu...specifically this pizza you serve - yuck. It's thick and rough dough with greasy cheap toppings left a lot to be desired. I was envisioning a pizza made in an authentic brick oven or at least something that was palatable - blechhh. I really hope this was an off night. This pizza was worse than any frozen pizza I've ever had and super salty. You could not pay me to order it again. Worse than the thick bread covered with cheese, was the service. Our server seemed to be bothered that we came to eat on this Monday night - with your restaurant filled with a whopping 4 tables. She was slow, forgot almost everything we asked for and seemed to hate her job. My sister joined our table after we had ordered some food, the waitress came by and my sister asked "what did you do to her? why is she so mad?" Great question, but she was like that when we arrived - rude & short with us. She didn't bring us silverware and walked away when my mom asked for some - no worries, I got it. When we asked for the desserts - she came by and literally slung a dessert menu at us and walked away. She didn't get refills. She forgot to add ricotta to the pizza. I must have made the incorrect assumption that she would be happy we were ordering appetizers, different entrees and desserts - because when the total goes up the tip does too, right? Despite this terrible experience I still tipped 20%...regretting it already. While my parents have for some unknown reason to me been patrons to this Nello's location for over a dozen years, we will never be back. The service, really terrible food (although my dad SWEARS the food is usually a little bit better) and the super blatant illegal drug use remind me how many other amazing restaurants there are to choose in Scottsdale.
