What People Are Saying About Mastro's Steak House

In Short – This elegantly decorated but casual nightspot draws an affluent, middle-aged crowd. There's a big, comfortable bar, a dance floor, piano bar and fireplace-furnished patio. Quiet, stylishly furnished dining rooms accommodate customers eating steak dinners. The slabs of prime beef are dusted with a secret sauce and served hot with butter and parsley. Menu items include a 40-ounce Porterhouse, bone-in prime rib, ribeye and a selection of chops, chicken and seafood.
Best Steak PERIOD
by westcory
First of all I have traveled all across the country and I have only found one better steakhouse (Charley's, Orlando Fl). Every trip back to Phoenix I go to Mastros and it is always the same (impeccable), which is rarely the case with most other establishments. Far better than Durants, Mortons, Ruth Chris, or Donovans.
The Ribeye is not the best steak in the joint first of all so if your a ribeye fan be warned. The bone in Fillet is great, as is the Strip and the porterhouse. The sides are always great and the atomic horseradish is worth the trip alone. The original Pinnacle Peak location is still better than the Goldwater location; the staff is not as astute at the newer location.
- Pros: Best Steak in Town PERIOD
- Cons: Still going to cost $250 for a couple with Tip.
Worst dining experience ever
by fine_diner2
I eat at a lot of steakhouses in the valley and this was by far the WORST dinner I have ever had. I ordered the wasabi mashed potatoes and they had no flavor, the steak was tough and overcooked. When I told our server about it, nothing was done. No manager, no apology, nothing. I would much rather have a great dinner and friendly service down the street at Paul Fleming's restaurant.
- Pros: NOTHING
- Cons: Horrible, food and way over priced
Very Disappointing

My wife and I dine out frequently and eat very well at home (AJ's meats and seafood). We live five minutes from Mastro's and decided to give it a try since it is always busy. While our waiter was friendly and attentive, the food was very unimpressive. Our beefsteak tomato and mozzarella appetizer arrived in just minutes and was very cold (i.e., it was made in advance and kept in the refrigerator). YOU DON?T REFRIGERATE TOMATOS! Incredibly for a top dollar steak house, both our filet and tuna steak were overdone. To their credit, they gave us a second tuna steak and did not charge us for it. We kept the over cooked filet so as not to sound like whiners and found parts of it to be tough and grizzly. We also ordered a side of wasabi-mashed potatoes and found them to be lacking in taste ? no wasabi zing! Forget dessert ? we went down the street to ?That?s Amore? for gelato. If you want a $16 martini, mediocre food and silicone cleavage, knock yourself out at Mastro?s. Our money is going to other steak houses in the valley.
