good atmosphere, but that doesn't make up for flavorless food and absent waitress. We are semi-regular visitors to Jalapeno Inferno over the past couple months. The atmosphere is always good but we have yet to have all the other aspects that make a good dining experience. Food is average or below with service even lower. Management is not responsive or friendly to needs either. Your best bet is to stop in for a margarita at the bar and then go somewhere else for dinner, or better yet save the gas money and have the margarita somewhere else too. Gave them too many chances.
Best Cheese Dip & Flour Chips. When I lived in AZ this place was always a favorite. Now I make it a point to visit Jalapeno Inferno every time I am in town. I am planning several trips to Scottsdale this Summer and can't wait to try the swordfish tacos!!! The service has always been spotty (sometimes good and sometimes not) but the food is always beyond fantastic. If you don't let spotty service spoil your meal then this may be some of the best Mexican food you'll ever have. If you are a cheese dip fan, make sure to try the spinach con queso and ask for a bowl of just flour chips.
Thank god! An awesome non chain restaurant.
Our favorite mexican food in the valley with very reasonable prices to boot! Very fresh salsa and I highly recommend the chicken fundido!
Very tasty margaritas too!
Terrible unfriendly staff and sub par food. Absolutely the rudest, laziest bar staff I have ever experienced in my life. I liked their food, but really the place has gone into the toilet. Dont go there, unless you like being ignored and overcharged.
Good food, but the service could be better.. I am have been here 3-4 times now. The food is pretty good, but not the best mexican I have had. It is a little pricey for some of the basic dishes. The thing that brings this place down is service. Everytime I have been here the service has been less then par. I enjoy the patio so I will be back, but you can only give a restrauant so many chances!
A long, slow Sunday nite?. Usually stay in south Scottsdale, but always looking for authentic mex or southwest haunt. Traveled 20 miles with 3 others on a Sunday nite around 7:45. The restaurant was not very busy and we were not greeted with a friendly smile or attitude from the girl sitting in an empty booth talking with another employee (not about business). We were quickly seated and greeted shortly by an older waitress, that although with a smile, we felt as though she was going thru the motions. After getting our orders with 2 orders slightly incorrect for the type of beans asked for, our waitress did a nice job of attending to our needs. We were also later asked (my a Manager?) if everthing was OK...again without much of a personality or sincerity. It is evident so far that no mention of the good eats is mentioned because it was good...not great and the attitudes did not make us feel welcomed (was it just a bad nite, maybe). Would I travel 20-25 minutes again, probably not, but if I was in the area I would give it another try.
Editorial Review by Citysearch Editors. A Mexican bistro serving fresh, traditional dishes, margaritas and more in a sit-down or patio setting.
The best mexican food in town.. This is the best Mexican food in town and I should know I grew up here! The atmosphere is great too.
Wonderful Mexican Food.
You can't go wrong at Jalapenos Mexican Cafe. We moved to Phoenix about 4 months ago and we've been enjoying discovering area restaurants. Jalapenos is by far the best mexican we've found. We were a little nervous that a place called Jalapenos in Arizona would have food spiced at a searing hot level. Not so. The chips and salsa were a delight. The chips were a combination of well made corn chips with a few fried flour tortillas thrown in for variety. The salsa was pleasantly mild and fresh tasting with chunks of tomato, onion and cilantro.
The Prickly Pear frozen margaritas were fantastic. They come with a prickly pear lollipop shaped like a saquaro - so be sure to order one. Usually one is my limit, but I had to have two.
We ordered Chicken Fajitas and the Crab Enchilada special. The fajitas came sizzling. The chicken was nicely marinated and very tender. The crab enchilas had nice size pieces of crab in a jalapeno cream sauce which had a medium level of zip to it.
We finished our dinner by sharing an order of the house made flan. Yum. All this while enjyoing excellent service and a tastefully decorated restaurant.
Best Tamales! Best Salsa and Chips!.
Great young staff that's really seems to care about your dining experience. The food seems very authentic! I love coming here since they enlarged the Bar making it more inviting.
Great Job!!
