Low Aspirations – Two take-out orders from Arizona Bread Company in the last 3 days have failed to impress.
The first order was a simple sandwich, appearing alone in a styrofoam box with no garnish, and with a separate bag of chips. Not exactly a bad value, but the sandwich was bland and certainly nothing special for the price. We're talking about a takeout sandwich and a bag of chips for almost $10 here, so it should taste pretty good.
The second was a "large" salad, which came with dressing in a cup on the side, and one thin slice of french bread. The portion was small, the styrofoam container was small, the lettuce was dry, the dressing was marginal, and the bread was laughable.
The restaurant has been busy each time I've been there, but I can't understand why. With the rapid growth of "Bread Companies" named after every state and municipality, most try to distinguish themselves by exceeding expectations in some way, like having fresh and tasty food, pairing a bowl of soup with a good-sized hard roll and butter, including a cookie, offering to toss salads before you take them "to go," offering generous portions of salads, having takeout containers which accommodate those generous-sized salads, etc. They need to raise the bar, because there are much better options.
