Num Num. I Love Thai. Malee's recipes are top notch. I have been a fan of theirs for years. I can't remember their soup's name, but if you go there. Ask them for the soup with the coconut milk. It will make you salivate just thinking about it. They have another location by desert ridge too.
We Like It ... A Lot. My wife and I eat there regularly, we especially like the green peppercorn seafood dish and pineapple curry. Wings are spicy and our favorite appetizer. It's VERY good, what we call Thai home cooking (meaning unpretentious), and a decent value for Scottsdale. Spotty as a venue for intimate seating for two, but both indoors and the patio area are nice, as is the ambient piano music on certain nights. Service generally on the dot.
Great Food but Beware of your credit card number!.
I never have had a bad meal here and I miss their location in Desert Ridge. I would give it 5 stars however because I was making a reservation for a group of 15 people, I was required to leave my credit card number. I then found out that my card was compromised and used locally. When I called the restaurant, I found out they just write the card number in their reservation book which is out for the entire staff to see or anyone walking by the hostess stand. When I asked if I was going to be compensated for this, I was given $13 off a $200 bill (that was after the discount and the free meal we had with a card that came in the mail). I felt that for all the trouble I have to go through canceling my card, etc. that I should have been compensated for more then $13.
So if you have to give them a credit card to hold your table, make up a number!
Best Thai food in the Valley!. I LOVE this place. I go there at least once a month and think their food is delicious. Service is great and the ambiance is very intimate and welcoming. I usually order the Thai basil chicken (from the lunch menu) over angel hair pasta. The sauce is rich and it is seriously addictive. I've also had a lot of items from their menu and haven't been disappointed by anything. High quality meats and spiced just right. Every friend I've taken there has gone back on their own! I read some of the other reviews for the restaurant and I think it is authentic and better than any other thai restaurant around here. This would be a good date place and is also unpretentious. On the weekends they often have a pianist there which is very cozy and nice. You won't be disappointed by Maylee's!
Best Thai Food (Gringo's style) of course. Went there on Sat night, no reservation though, but got seated right away. The hostess was very nice and accomadating. Server, litlle blond lady, very down to earth, very knowledgeable about thai food as she were from Thailand. Mango magarita and papaya mango salad (very creative) were delicious. Pad thai was nice, shrimp was little over cooked but over all flavor was definitely wonderful. Coco chili fish, recommendation of our server was out of this world. I have never seen this dish in any other Thai Restaurant before and I do eat Thai food all over the world including Thailand. Coco chili fish, oh, how I am still thinking about you!!! To end the meal, we ordered sweet black sticky rice, what's a twist from an old white sticky rice, served with green custard, was also wonderful . Over all , Malee's still got it after I don't know how they have been here.
Not Authentic but Delicious. I agree that this restaurant is not authentic but the quality of the food and cooking style makes up for it's lack of authenticity. This is a far better restaurant than Swaddee and the Pink Pepper. Unlike those restaurants, Malee's food has flavor. I would best describe this restaurant as a west coast fusion Thai. The chef is extremely talented and created. The drawbacks to Malee's is the price and sometimes stuffy service from the 30 thousdand dollar millionaire fake Scottdale waitresses who feel they are too good to be a waitress.
Nice, but pad thai needs a boost. Only tried the pad thai dish, the sauce was tasty and was not as spicy as expected. Loved the red garnish (red beet?) on the dish. However, the dish could have benefited from more color and depth of flavor. Whole peanuts and cilantro/other herb could have boosted this dish because the pad thai got a little boring towards the end. Shrimp were large, but a little overcooked/dry for my liking. Both shrimp and chicken in this dish could have been juicier. The server/possibly owner? was very nice. Drinks were filled promptly. Loved that Malee's seemed to lack the usual pretentiousness of Scottsdale. Overall feeling of restaurant was cozy and clean.
Mildly spicy fare makes this a Thai restaurant for everyone..
In Short
Phoenix boasts at least a dozen Thai restaurants, and Malee's is one of the most popular. Situated in the heart of downtown Scottsdale, this pretty-in-pink cafe feels both upscale and accessible. The menu offers the usual Thai specialties--satay, pad thai, curries, soups and noodle dishes--as well as a few unique selections that riff on Southwestern cuisine.
The place for Thai. Looking for great Thai food, this is the place. Great location, great service, cozy atmosphere. The crispy thai chicken is great. Lunch or dinner, this is a great option if you are looking for spicy asian.
Best Sushi. This place is awesome!!!! I couldn't have asked for more, friendly staff and the food was great. I will go back.
