Editorial Review for The Phoenician – by Citysearch Editors
In Short
Savings-and-loan financier Charles H. Keating Jr.'s dream was to build the world's biggest, most grand, most spectacular resort in history. The Phoenician was the ultimate outcome featuring more than $1 million in Native American sculptures outside, gold-leaf trimmings inside and exotic plants flown in from as far away as East Africa. Now owned by Starwood Hotels, the hotel is still just as luxurious. All rooms have oversized bathrooms with Italian marble, plush robes and rattan furniture.

WOW, This resort has the feel of luxury from the moment you drive in. The plush, mature landscaping looks wonderfull. The main entrence is spectacular. The staff were very outgoing trying to antisipate our needs. The rooms are huge and the baths are even larger than my kithchen. The newly renivated rooms have plasma flat screens and those wonderfull beds... heavenly bed I believe. The view from our room was awsome, overlooking the pool. Their room service was wonderfull as they set up in our room as if we were in a fine dining restaraunt. The pools were plenty, with one for every like. The slide was fun and our children loved it. This is truly a resort of luxury and worth the money spent there.
Pros: Service is truly 5 diamond
Cons: pool water a little warm

Spa is dark and old. The hallways are so tiny and cramped in the spa that if there are more than two people it's a traffic jam. EVERYTHING in the resort is over priced. But for a really fun time, try and change your room. It's the thing nightmares are made of. For $300 - $400 a night I thought I would be able to look at something prettier than an adobe wall and tiled roof. There are a ton of resorts around the country - do your homework before you put down your hard earned money.
