Mesa >Roy's Train World
Duffus Employee Responds. I feel I must respond to "Train Buff". First, please note the review date. Not as an excuse but note the time of year. Mr. Train Buff was incensed that I gave him a torn $5 bill and I did replace it upon his request. He was upset that I placed it back in the drawer for use instead of taking it out of circulation, not a decision I make and I wanted to get back to other customers in the store. The next customer that apparently ended up with the bill did not complain. I am simply a clerk hoping I give the right amount of change. No consideration for customers? I home deliver to customers unable to drive, I visit elderly people to help with their home layouts during the holidays, Ive been known to drive across town and even state to deliver products in a timely manner. And yes, all on my own time and expense. In truth, Mr Train Buff has been back to the store and I have waited on him without incident.
Ignorant of customer courtesy.
I went to pay on a layaway item and when I got cash back he gave me a five that was almost torn in half. I asked for a better bill and he was annoyed that I would ask for it. Then he put the torn bill back on top of the other fives in the register to give to the next customer.
What A DUFUS! I worked in retail for many years and when I encountered a worn out bill, I put it under the cash drawer; in other words took it out of circulation to turn in with my nightly deposit.
This guy, the employee has no consideration for his customers.
Some people need to get a life. These fool's that are griping, get a life! Do you no how many hobby places have closed up in our country. I bought a DCC engine from hobbytown once and after I left the building they didn't want to see me anymore. Oh! that store closed up. Go figure! I like Roy's, so keep your pie hole shut. Sam
Nice Store, over-priced. I think that the headline just about says it all. Facts are facts. Any questions?
My wife and I were in Mesa and I wanted to browse G scale train items at Roy's. I was a little skeptical after reading the reviews about the staff, but decided it didn't much matter, since I was only planning on looking and not buying. After visiting the store, I felt compelled to write a review, due to the variety of good and bad reviews posted on this site. We received wonderful service. I may be incorrect, but as I recall hearing employees saying "Ask Dad about this..." etc, my assumption is that many of the employees were family members. We were asked by at least 3 or 4 employees "Can we help you find anything today?", and each time they welcomed us when I stated that I was merely here to look and drool at the trains. Nobody ever gave us a bit of grief, and this was on a Saturday during the holiday season rush. The store was quite busy, yet the staff was pleasant.
While the G-scale collection was somewhat limited and quite expensive, this is fairly common due to the lack of popularity and costly nature of large scale trains. However we found a great selection of old second-hand train magazines (including some of my favorite publications) for sale for $0.50 and $1 each. I felt like I had struck gold. Some did not have prices marked, but when we checked out, they charged $0.50 for those, which I felt demonstrated some honesty.
I likely will not find myself making many purchases of high-dollar equipment there any time soon due to my budget, living on the opposite side of the valley, and the limited selection of G-scale. However, I look forward to browsing their books and magazines in the future. My wife and I both remarked on how pleasant the staff was.
" GET A LIFE".
A COUPLE OF PEOPLE GOT OUT OF BED ON THE WRONG SIDE.
I HAVE NEVER IN TEN YEARS HAD ANY PROBLEMS AS DESCRIBED.
THE STORE IS CLEAN AND WELL STOCKED. ANY SPECIAL ORDERS HAVE BEEN HANDLED VERY PROMPLY.
ON ANY GIVEN DAY I GUESS THERE COULD BE A PROBLEM WITH PARKING BUT I HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCED ONE. ALWAYS FOUR OR FIVE SPOTS.
AS FAR AS PRICING IS CONCERNED WE HAD BETTER SUPPORT OUR LOCAL MERCHANTS OR THEY WONT BE HERE.
PERSONALY I LIKE TO TOUCH AND SEE THING RUN BEFORE I PLUNK DOWN MY MONEY.
GREAT FAMILY OWNED BUSINESS
Best Model train shop. I have been to this store on numerous occasions. I have been treated with the most respect of any train stores I have been to. Go in with a great attitude, and you will get a great attitude back. Go in with a chip, any expect the treatment like the other reviewer. Personael are more than willing to help, even if they do not have it in stock. I am confined to a wheelchair and it is ok to navigate the store. If not, they are willing to move things out of the way. My hat is off to the employees. Thanks for a great experience. Yes, it is true you can get things cheaper on the internet, but, we will lose stores like this if we do. They have to pay the bills to stay open.
Overpriced, moody and fussy store employees, avoid this place at all costs. All of the three encounters I've had with this store have been horrible. On one occasion I was looking for a specific part for a locomotive and the store owner was more interested in pushing his own agenda. I wanted something prototypically correct and he tried to tell me I was wrong when he clearly didn't have a clue what he was talking about. He ignored me and went on to another customer as I sat there waiting to hand over the money for a special order. Second, I went in to purchase 3 HOscale gondolas about 15 minutes prior to closing time. The guy acted standoffish and irritated that I was even there. Is this how they try to get repeat customers? He sat there staring me down as I made my selection. I paid and was out within 10 minutes and promptly locked the door behind me. Third, I wanted to special order 3 new units just released by Athearn that are selling at several other hobbyshops for around 70 dollars. Roys wanted 100 bucks each with no room to budge. Caboose hobbies dot com had them for the better price so I ordered all 3 with courteous and friendly service. A couple emails have been sent to Roys train world expressing my dissatisfaction but were never returned. In my final attempt to formally contact them I stated that I'd never purchase anything at their store again and would do everything in my power to boycott them. Not having the common courtesy to at least address my concern shows the level of arrogance they have. They clearly don't know how to treat a customer. Overall, I would say that their staff is snooty, arrogant, and everything in the place is overpriced. Even with shipping considered, anyone can find a far better deal online.
