Waldo's BBQ. This restaurant made for a great experience and tasty food. The original Waldo’s is located in central Mesa just East of Greenfield on Main Street. If you are in the mood for decent quality cheap BBQ, crazy atmosphere, and interesting wait staff the original Waldo’s is for you.

The first thing I must tell you all about is the ambiance. This place is like stepping into a time warp. It is set up like a little diner in a small town where everybody knows everybody and the staff has worked there for ever. In addition these people are very proud of being free, meat eating, gun toting Americans as the stuffed animals and signage explains. I love this aspect of the place and in my experience every one that has been there enjoys it also. I have found that most people get a kick out of just reading the multitude of signs and sayings plastered all over the walls and even the ceiling.

Now as far as the food goes, it is not the worst and not the best I have ever had. With that being said it is one of my top 5 favorite BBQ places in AZ. Waldo’s has the typical BBQ place menu with a variety of meats and cuts for your liking. As a self considered expert on BBQ and someone who has tried almost everything on the menu at Waldo’s. I would say the best thing on the menu as far as taste and value is “The Pig” which translates to the pulled pork sandwich. The sandwich consists of pork butt and shoulder meat which is dry rubbed with a plethora of spices then deliciously smoked, sauced and put on a deli style bun. The sandwich also comes with a side that is bottomless. As far as the side goes I recommend the grilled veggie side which is bell pepper (red, yellow, green) onion, zucchini, squash, with a special seasoning and then grilled and did I mention bottomless. Awesome!!

In closing I would have to say that Waldo’s BBQ is a prime example of the saying “you get what you pay for”. It is great food that is matched very well to the price. I think it's the overall aesthetics are what draws me to this place because I feel like you are dining in some diner in an old small town.

Fast service, good for kids. Took the family (3 young kids included) here on a Wed night, was a parents' dream. We got sat fast, hostess and waitress were nice, food seemed really fresh and came out unbelievably fast...atmosphere was friendly and good for us, not too noisy but we weren't worried about our kids ticking people off, plus when we cashed out we found out kids are free weekdays! Cha-ching! Anyway, brought a buddy there couple days later for lunch hour, figured we'd get in and out quick, I was right...pulled pork sandwich awesome, would recommend

where's the meat?. My family and I love BBQ and tried this place just recently. My son and I always have the brisket at Joe's BBQ, here there was no meat!! It was ALL fat, very disappointing. The mashed potatoes were bland and the ribs that my husband ordered were nothing to write home about. He also had the deep fried corn on the cob....gross, don't do it. We'll make the extra drive time to go back to Joe's.

Hot, Delicious, and More Than Enough. We had Waldo's deliver food to us in South Chandler. It was quite a distance from their location and we thought that that may affect their service. It didn't. The food arrived hot and delicious. Not only that, but there was more than enough food for everyone. They provided everything (including serving utensils) which they left with us. It was such a positive experience that we've already planned our next event with them.

Half off coupon not enough. I give them credit for great advertising, and getting their coupons out there, but I felt that this was some of the most over priced under spiced over cooked grissly dry barbeque I have ever tasted. Later, I was told that their prices were high because most people have coupons.

To be fair, I was also told that I should have tried their ribs, and maybe I will give them another shot, because making great ribs is more than a redeaming quality of a barbeque place.

All about ribs. This place is all about ribs........pork ribs that is. The pulled meat sandwiches are also good. Try the sampler plate for a good mix and plenty to take home. Stay away from the beef ribs however, as they are mostly fat and bone. Some of the sides, the beans for example, were somewhat flavorless.
