Excellent.
I have dined here monthly/weekly for more than 20 years. That pretty much sums it up. I have tried Chinese style food all over the valley, USA, North America and China.
I found a place in Hong Kong and one in Canada I liked about the same as the Golden Gate.

It's a tradition in our family - and a great one. We have been coming to Golden Gate for family events and just occasional meals for 20 years and have always had a great experience. The owner always comes by to say hello and calls us by name, the wait staff are all courteous and efficient and friendly. But, the food is what really makes a difference here. It is absolutely consistently delicious and way above the typical Chinese restaurant. It is our favorite. In fact we were just there last night for a memorable evening.…
Not worth it.. I had high hopes for this small family owned restaurant, however I was not impressed. We started off with the wor wonton soup and it wasnt bad but lacked flavor. I then ordered the Szechuan beef and it was almost inedible the sauce it came in was overwhelmingly tangy and covered up any natural flavor of the meat and veggies. My sis ordered the mongolian beef and it was to sweet for my taste but she seemed to like it. We also ordered the three kings shrimp (again way too sweet), beef and onion (edible), sesame chicken (sauce to overwhelming), and lastly the crisp duck (dry and completely bland). You know, I hate to bag on this place because the waitresses were so nice but it just seemed like the people back in the kitchen didnt know what they were doing. I must say the deep fried banana wontons were excellent. Seriously dont waste your money.…
Best Chinese Food in Tempe. I love their lemon chicken it's the best no other chinese restruant can compare to it. Too bad there is only one location. The service is fast food is tasty and lunch specials are awsome. I would go more often but its just too far of a drive for me. I am also a fan of their fried rice yum. I am still trying to find a place that serves really good lemon chicken on my side of town but non can compare to Golden Gate. I just have to drive across town if i want the best Lemon Chicken EVER.…

Wonderful Chinese food located at Baseline and the 101 in Tempe! Best Pork Dumplings in the Phoenix metro area. This place rocks. The Szechwan style Chinese food could possibly be the most authentic
and best tasting in the 480 area code. This is not a chain restaurant and is family owned. If you have ever had chinese food in San Fran or New York this is the closest you are going to get while you are here in the desert.
The prices are very resonable and the place is never too crowded to get a table. Everyone I have taken there has gone back at one time or another on their own afterwards and loves the place too! I wish I could say enough great things about this place. Golden Gate Chinese Restaurant is located at 2640 W. Baseline Rd. Tempe AZ 85202 in the same strip mall as Hollywood Alley. Go in there and get either one of the lunch specials or go in for dinner one night and try one of their dozens of amazing dishes! If it wasn't so far away from the house I would go there more but every chance I get I am going to go down there to Golden Gate because it is just that good.…
