This was my first visit to Gabby’s bar
and frankly I was not impressed. A buddy of mine from my National Guard unit had picked me up from my place after I had gotten off work on Thursday the 15th of November to go get a beer and talk. My friend suggested Gabby’s because he lived nearby and had seen it before.
At first glance Gabby’s seems like a nice, quiet place to have a beer and a conversation. Well, that was not my first experience on Thursday night at 11pm. As my friend and I walked through the door our ears were pounded by the horrid sound of a pair of girls trying to sing country karaoke music.
My friend and I made it to the counter to order our drinks where a friendly lady took our order of a beer and a mixed drink. While my friend had no problem receiving his drink the bartender informed me that they were out of what I wanted on tap so she offered me a bottle instead. I thought to myself “what kind of crummy place runs out of tap on a weeknight.” Since the karaoke music was so loud my friend and I tried to take our conversation outside. Boy was that a mistake.
Outside on a very small patio that doubled as the smoking area, my friend and I tried to hold a private conversation. In an area that was no bigger than the size of a walk-in closet where you had to share space with smokers, you could not talk without having someone over hear what you were saying. My friend and I tried to talk but with no space and the lack of open chairs we finally went back inside.
Once back inside we ordered another round. My feelings toward Gabby’s didn’t improve. My second beer was warm at best and this time the bartender was singing karaoke, country again, where she almost spilled some drinks on my friend and me. Barely having touched my second beer my friend suggested we go see a movie so we left.
This being my first time at Gabby’s it left a horrid reminder in my memory. Gabby’s is not a very good place to have a beer when you are trying to hold a conversation. Not only was it loud and annoying there was no consistency in how cold the beer was. My good company was the only thing that made my first visit to Gabby’s bearable. Gabby’s is not a place I would recommend if you are looking to hold a serious conversation and think things through.
