A gym for steroid boys and punks. I was going to transfer my membership to the Gold's gym in Ahwatukee, AZ. I did a 2 week trial period first. I'm damn glad I did. It's an older gym with older type equipment. Some of the older stuff doesn't work as smoothly as newer designs, but that's not my rant. This gym is what you would picture as being inhabited by ego-driven steroid boys. The first thing I noticed was the loud punk like playfull threats they made amoungst themselves, like: I'm gonna kick your ass,,,,etc.. Ya, it's how they play but not what you want to hear when you work out. I figured it was just a matter of time before some idiot would try out his macho bu!!shit on me. Sure enough, the second week I was asked to get off a bench by an instructor running a new client thru a circuit. Evidently I didn't get off quick enough for one of the punks who shouted out: YOU NEED TO LEARN SOME MANNERS! I looked at the moron and walked away as he then threatened me. I also had a couple of guys tell me they were using a machine(s) (that were unused) when I went to use them because they had left their keys at the base of the machine on the floor which was supposed to indicated they were saving their place on the machine while they went off and something else. I had guys pull free weights off the holding racks of machines I was using while I in the middle of a press, which totally distracts your concentration. This was just in two weeks. The shower facilites were too small and poor. Generally an unfriendly, hostle environment. The problem is that this bu!!shit goes unchecked by the staff, unlike other Golds Gyms in other states where signs are posted prohibiting the crude behavior.. I suggest that for anyone with an ounce of sophistication, you avoid this place.…
Despite its Hollywood connections, this franchise's focus is on pumping iron, not newfangled razzle-dazzle..
In Short
The Terminator and the Incredible Hulk (aka Arnold Schwarzenegger and Lou Ferrigno) lifted weights at the gym's Venice, California, flagship years ago, but even today, customers
frequenting charter locations are bound to encounter serious muscle. Take note: The boys with bulging biceps are the mascots, not the majority. Gold's generally offers Spinning, aerobics and kickboxing classes, yet weight-training remains the core of the program. Dumbbells and barbells, not spa-like amenities, are the attractions that draw the beef-heads in droves.…
