Parting ways after 20 years

by longun4u

As a 20 plus year member, I have had it with this club. Don Reed and his band of pirates has

managed to destroy this club. The small bore range is wrecked, unusable for any serious

competition. The high power club is in total disorganization, plus the practical crowd is making

encroachment by scheduling sniper matches under the guise of ?tactical rifle? tournaments. To

ad insult to injury, the place looks like a pig sty. The range master looks like Uncle Fester from

the Adam?s Family, possessing the social graces of Jerry Clower?s rural Mississippi character

Marcel Ledbetter. My advice, unless you?re one of those knuckle dragging, law enforcement

wannabe, practical types, spend your money at Ben Avery or Rio Slado and stay away from

South Mountain. It is not worth the headache. Shame, this was a great little gun club years ago.

  • Pros: Nothing good left in this club
  • Cons: Board of directors out of touch with reality

NRA Cult

by gmaz

stay far away from this place, you'll get what you pay for with the 100 dollars for the year membership, they handle the crowds by being as cold and unwelcoming as possible, non-members stay away!!!!!! on Saturdays and Sundays it is extremely crowded and employees will do everything they can to make sure that you do not "get in the way" of the members. (be prepared to get kicked out). It is more like an NRA cult then a gun club, don't waste your time or money, there are plenty of professional gun clubs in AZ do not even consider this one as an option.

  • Pros: close in city limits
  • Cons: back country politics and hillbilly board members

Why I Resigned From P$&GC Board of Directors

by ConcernedShooter

This is a copy of my resignation letter from the PR&GC Board of Directors

"Approximately two years ago the Smallbore Range was divided to accommodate

the desire of the Practical Firearms Division (PFD) for additional space. Large earthen berms were erected to accomplish this, and the material used contained large rocks and rubble. A tractor was used to scrape some of this up. In so doing, many of the holes for inserting smallbore targets were filled, and rebar stakes for placing wind flags were removed. More recently, a Smallbore Match was conducted that unintentionally conflicted with one of their matches, also utilizing the Smallbore Range. Edwards and Mark Thompson showed up during the match and loudly protested. Later, after a Board of Directors meeting, in a confrontation between myself and Mark Thompson who said to me ?I could have mopped up the range with you.? Threatening language indeed. Sometimes violent minds lead to violent bodies. Considering his 40 yrs., 6? plus height and 200 plus lbs., and my 81 years, 5? 7?, and 165 lbs., he could safely make that statement. Sixteen years ago a letter similar to this was written concerning the presence of a Practical Pistol Division at PR&GC, detailing many concerns about personal safety and club liability. The Practical Pistol Division went away but has returned as the Practical Firearms Division. New name, same bunch of thugs! The same concerns then exist today. It appears that the Practical Firearms Division would like to see the Smallbore Division go away so they can take over the range property. I am terminating my position on the PR&GC Board of Directors as of now."

  • Pros: Once was one of the best shooting clubs in the valley!
  • Cons: Small group of people controls the direction of club
