Phoenix >Frank's Hobby House
Franks is okay I have bought a few things there once you get to talking to old guys they are nice I could see how if you go in there they can be rude. I went in once and Chris followed me around the store before they knew me like I was going to shop lift I guess. It's typical of a small hobby shop make sure you ask about there return policy's they don't take anything back. I hear them complaining about how online buyers are hurting there business like the customer owes them something. It's close to me, so I keep going there.
I was given a gift certificate for my birthday by my staff to use for my HO train layout. Unfortunately, Franks's ONLY carries track and a few cars, no scenery or speciality items for HO trains. I was told that they could order items for me, but I can do that for myself online and save money as well. When asked if I could have a refund for the gift certificate since they don't have what I wanted, I was told "No". So let the buyer beware - if you are going to give anyone a gift certificate to Frank's, be certain that they have the products inhouse that your friend will want or need - otherwise you will only be making a generous donation to Frank. Sorry Frank, but you lack any customer service skills!
Frank's is a wonderland of modelling supplies. I found stuff in there I needed that has been out of stock anywhere else. An for the new stuff, if they don't have it, they can get it for you at less than you would pay for online sources with the shipping. Okay, it helps if you have a cynical sense of humor when you go there. I hope that Bernie is still with us but maybe now gone. I have no sympathy for you yuppies that break stuff then try to return it months later. This is not a Mercedes dealership, it's a HOBBY store for hard core RC flyers. WYSIWYG just like the online. The guys working there can be very helpful, but you must ask nicely and with some respect, like you would your grandfather if you have one.
Bought a hobby iron and took it home. 1 hour into my project the hobby iron stopped working. Went back to Franks to get a new one and was told I had to go return it to the manufact.
I will say the old ass in the back yells at me every time I go in there I am not sure what thats all about.
I wish there was another hobby store that stocked parts in north phoenix so I could never go back to this dumb. Staff knows NOTHING about the hobby they sell parts for.
Frank's Hobby House is a RIP OFF!!. We give Frank's NO STARS. We bought an RC car that didn't run from day one. When we tried to return it for credit within three weeks of purchase with the intention of buying another car were told we couldn't receive a full credit because the car was used. The car only ran one time for about 10 minutes, hardly used, I would say. When we called to talk to the owner today, 10/29, 30 days after purchase, he was rude and condescending. We own our own business and would never treat a customer this way and would have agreed to give the customer a full refund. Shame on you Frank's Hobby Bench. VERY UNPROFESSIONAL AND VERY POOR BUSINESS PRACTICE.
FRANK'S IS AWESOME!. This is a great little Hobby Shop with a great variety of RC equipment...in fact so much stuff that space is tight. Last time in for example I saw a full range of new RC engines and even a lot of used engines from OS.40 up through DA100 gassers...so, yes very good variety but it changes all the time. I have been through the store (for years now) and have always been treated with respect and outstanding service (why I go back). Oh, I did see a punk try to steal something and got caught....maybe he is one of the hate posts here??? Great place to buy your RC gear.
quite knowledgable, very helpful!. Im really not sure why customers have any thing bad to say about these guys,I have been going there for almost a year now and those two in RC Cars are awesome to me every time im in there,I went in today to buy some wire, to wire up a motor, and I took the motor with me and Chris was cool enough to wire it and solder it for me without asking him, and I was looking for some O rings and they only sold them in a package with other products I didnt need, so Pat in RC Cars called Traxxas while I was there waiting to ask if they do sell them individually, these guys have taken care of me on MANY occasions,They always have my parts and Ive got 4 different RC Cars.
WARNING ! . . . WARNING ! . . . WARNING !.
Do not use cash when purchasing anything at "Frank's Hobby House and Used Garage Sale Items" over $10 (under this amount they charge a service fee anyway). By using your credit card you have automatic Return Protection that gaurantees you the right to return anything for any reason for up to 60 days. Don't be intimidated or hood-winked by these guys. Just leave the item on the counter and leave without putting up with their lip-service. It worked well for me.
"Frank's Hobby House in Phoenix, AZ is a private company categorized under Crafts. Our records show it was established in 1981 and incorporated in Arizona. Current estimates show this company has an annual revenue of $1 to 2.5 million and employs a staff of approximately 5 to 9. Bernard Bernie Frank is listed as the president and Martin Frank (his son) is listed as the owner". In other words, Bernie is NOT just a cashier.
Customer service.... HA HA. Unfortunately I had to pick at least 1 star this web site would not allow me to perform negative values in that field. This place is a joke there there usually out of Heli parts and when asking questions FORGET IT ! if you know exactly what you want and all you have to do is run in and grab it your probably o.k.. Customer service is horrible Chris in the back counter is one of the rudest people I have ever had the pleasure of dealing with Circle K has a friendlier staff and asking questions is an inconvenience. I was fully prepared to buy an Align 600 with all the trimmings and was willing to wait (supporting local shops) but after waiting at the counter for 15 minutes while Chris was reading an R.C. mag I knew service after the sale service was going to suck . I had a part that was bad out of the package, I returned it after it wouldn't work they kept it overnight said it was good to go I picked it up tried to use it after it would not work I went back they checked it and he then told me it was bad WTF??? I asked for a replacement they told me I would have to contact the manufacturer he could have easily replaced the item but did not. I did call the manufacturer they told me they had a bad lot and would send me a new one I relayed this info. to them they basically said I was lying I thought WOW for a company that deals with this stuff they would have known about this issue right away. The big guy tried to help more than Chris did, Chris kept giving him the "Keep quiet" look which is quit difficult while rolling his eyes at customers! I finally left and will drive from scottsdale to Duncan's R.C. and not donate 1 cent to keep that place open. I did get they Align from somewhere else and I'm glad I did.
Worst LHS ever. All the bad stuff is true. There are a bunch of jerks with attitudes that work at this place, and God help you if you go here for planes..it's 2 or 3 old guys that you will LITERALLY be interupting from a nap if you want to ask someone a question. If you need help with R/C cars the bigger guy with a super close haircut is awesome, and always respectful, the thinner guy with hair seems to think he is God's gift to everyone and everything..try not to disturb him by speaking to him, then you'll just get a stare down..if you open your mouth he'll look at you like an idiot and tell you how much he knows. Frank's works and always has because of ONE reason- location. 32nd st. and Cactus is prime real estate, period, and no other LHS are even close.. if you can wait 4 days, do yourself a favor and save tons of money, go to tower hobbies-at least there you can return something.. Franks won't take ANYTHING back..ever. Want to hear the best part? In the very late 90's, Bernie, the old man at the cash register, told someone they didn't have a part in inventory, I overheard the conversation, said I had one in the truck, and I'd sell it to the guy for 30.00. Bernie started yelling at me, and told me to get out of the store.. he followed me out of the store yelling about how I took business away from Frank's. =) You will see and experience that attitude/tone/look from that man every time you go there. So sad, there are two nice guys that work there.,the rest are like the reviews.
