WOW! This lamp store is one of the last surviving, no flourishing, mom and pop type stores left in the country. There is no mystery to their success. From the moment you enter the store you feel welcome, as if you are among family. The employees are friendly, helpful and do they know lighting! The owner has been in business for over 67 years, so you know he is doing something right! If you are looking for a lighting store that offers quality light fixtures, quality service, parts and repairs, and guarantees all workmanship then look no further. The Wizard of Odz is #1 in my book. They get a 5 star rating from me! I was referred to the Wizard of Odz by Lamps Plus! and i am so grateful i followed their recommendation! This store and its employees are irreplaceable. Thank you Wizard of Odz for the fantastic shopping experience I shared with you folks! I will definitely recommend you to my friends!
I almost made the same mistake as LarBear. I'm glad I didn't!!!
I decided to take my chances and visit the wizard of odz. Thank God I didn't let the opinion of some goof ball keep me away.
Victoria greated me with a sincere smile and took the time to listen to my needs and then ran all over the store to find the perfect glass globe for my antique lamp. Her brother Noah was equally as kind and helpful.
I've lived in Phoenix for 52 years and i've always heard rave reviews from my friends, family and customers about the Wizard of Odz. The post's here are the first negative thing I've ever heard. When you go, you'll see what I mean. I hope you write a good review if you agree with this post. THEY DESERVE IT!!!
Posted Reviews – I have a lamp that I was going to have re-wired by this company but after reading the reviews I think I will continue looking for someplace else.
I find it very strange that they would have 3 bad reviews and 2 glowing reviews. Did those that wrote the good reviews go to a different place or what? I'm always leery when there is such a large difference in opinions.
Thanks everyone for the information. I'll keep looking for someplace else to have the work done.
Shockingly Unfriendly – I had been a patron a couple of times over the years -- and referred them a few times -- but my last experience with them so unpleasant that I felt I had to mention it. It was in the evening, after closing, with an entirely empty parking lot, that my niece and I parked in front of the Wizard of Odz store, and ran into another business in an adjacent mall that was still open, but to which I'd missed the entrance for their parking. We were less than 15 minutes, but when we came back, there was a large 8"x11" notice under my wiper blade telling me that I was illegally parked, and that my license had been written down, and if I ever did it again I'd be promptly towed. Wow -- again -- they were closed. The parking lot was completely empty. This killed my interest in ever patronizing them again.
Great job! – Brought in two old figurine lamps that needed rewiring, clean brass base and clean porcelain. Came out great and done when told it would be done. No where else could this be fixed. I get compliments. Price was cheaper than buying junk made in China at a lamp store.
Big Time Rip Off – Wizard of Odz came recommended to us by Lamps Plus.
We took two hand blown lamp shades to be wired. The owner, Steve Brown, assured us "he would take care of us". We agreed upon what was to be done and came back a week later to pick up our lamps. When we got home we found that Steve Brown really took "care" of us. Wizard of Odz charged us for 5 feet of electrical cord when we specified only 3 feet. The fixtures they put on our lamp shades were used and painted over and very poorly at that. The ceiling fixtures were also used and spray painted over, also the marks from screws were still evident on these fixtures. They charged us $ 29.50 an hour for labor when he, Brown, told us both labor would only be $15.00 an hour. We saw no sign in the store stating the labor charge. We are now trying to get our $130.37 refunded.
I can not emphasize strongly enough that Steve Brown and the Wizard of Odz are the most dishonest merchants that we have ever dealt with. Be advised to stay away from these thieves.
Extremely experienced & great parts source! – The Wizard of Odz knows lamps and can restore some of the rarest and hard to find lamps with equally hard to find parts. There simply are no lamp stores like this anymore. Sure - 30 years ago you could still find a few, but now they are all but gone. This shop is one of the last good lamp repair shops. I hope they stick around for many more years! If you have a lamp actually worth some money - this is the place to take it to! Great workmanship!
WHAT A RIP OFF!! – I was referred to this joint. They seemed to be nice people upon my entrance into their store. But here's my issue with them. They don't verbally advise you that they have a MINIMUM LABOR CHARGE OF $29.50 per friggin hour! I go pick up a part they ordered for me. All they needed to do was screw FOUR damn screws in this little black box and I get charged for the box which was only $16, which was fine, but $29.50 for less than a minute of their time. I don't know how they stay in business. The front desk gal pointed to a sign that stated this minimum labor rate of theirs, but it's not like you visibly see it displayed with all the chandliers and lighting junk hanging from their shop.....which by the way looks and smells more like a thrift store. I give this store a big fat F-!!! BEWARE!!!!
