I'm outraged and completely shocked by the way i was treated today at the sas fabric store on 19th ave and peoria. First of all i want to say i'm a woman that wears a head cover out of her personal belief choice and preferences, and i have done so for the past 16 years. This is the FIRST time i have experienced a pure discrimination in all these years.
I was standing in the line to have my fabrics measured and cut. One customer infront of me-one behind me. Lady at the register is finished with the customer infront of me and i'm stepping forward to her table/register. She looks at me -first what i thought was maybe her way of " aknowledging/greeting " me.So i said " hi".. she looks me in the face, and walks away. I'm thinking- maybe she needs to get something and will be right back. So i'm standing there and waiting-only to realize that woman has walked away from me-went to the next table and called the customer behind me " next please " and started taking care of her. I was just standing there and trying to process what was actually going on. I asked the next employee- " why did she just walk away ? i waited in the line and i was " next " she saw me and just walked away... " i don't know anything " was the response from that employee. As i was asking this question "that" particular woman was only few feet away from me hearing my question and concern and kept treating me as " invisible " she gave no sign whatsoever to care about my presence. This is something that i simply can NOT ignore and i want to take it as far as i can to make sure that i get a fair treatment just like any other citizen. and just because i have chosen a religios preference -which is my full right -doesn't make me a " less citizen ?!?!
DO NOT TRUST THIS LOCATION! There are 2 better sites! – DO NOT TRUST THIS STORE (19th AVE)!!! I've been a regular at this store in the past. They will no longer get any of my business. A few days ago I bought a large amount of silk, wool, and other materials at this location. I was under the assumption that their labeling was correct (which it wasn't). When I explained that the material was not as suggested on their labeling they stated that there are no returns, or exchanges no matter what. I confirmed that one of the materials that was labeled silk was a much less expensive polyester taffeta stretch that was valued at a fraction of the price I paid for "silk". I also explained that this was for a wedding dress and I would only like to exchange the material for real silk (of which I paid for). Again, they stated no returns, no exchanges. They do not stand behind their product, nor do they seem to know which material is which. The manager himself even stated that he has to assume the labels are correct but he's not sure. It's unfortunate that the customer service as well as the integrity of their business and product are so poor. The (unassociated) SAS on 11st and Indian School or Alma School and McClintock is much better and sells the real thing! I'd suggest all customers check them out before they go to this location.
The Best Fabric Store in Phoenix - 4/18/2011 – Before I went to this store, I read all the awful reviews on this site... but I really wanted some variety other than JoAnns so I braved the experience. I LOVE THIS STORE. I LOVE THE PEOPLE. From the moment I stepped in this eclectic collection of everything sewing, I was hooked. The staff is friendly and almost went out of their way to assist me in my hunt for treasures. When I brough 50 appliques (all different) to the counter, they smiled and went back to the shelves to price them all. Run, don't walk to this store...
HORRIBLE Customer Service – I love the huge selection and the price, but the people working there are RUDE! They yell at kids, not willing to answer questions, and they act like it is a huge inconvenience to have to help you. I have gone there dozens of times and it has been like that EVERY time I went.
Best Fabric Store in Phoenix – It has the best prices for many different fabrics. They have a full row of bins full of scraps of leather that are perfect for details. The larger bits of leather can make clothing. It has an okay staff and the cut and measure well. This is definitely a wonderful store to shop in for all your fabric needs.
SAS! – They aren't always the most friendly staff, but they will get you what you want or need. I absolutely love this place, so the drawbacks are irrelevant to me. The prices are kept low, and they have a massive volume of fabrics, buttons, trims, beads, and random plastic junk. The neighborhood looks a bit scary, but I've never felt threatened, even though I am a 5' woman.
Rude Employees and Terrible Product – Every time my mother and I have gone to SAS, they have been rude to us. Often, they demonstrate irritated behavior when you ask questions about fabric or go to have a few yards of fabric cut. I recommend you do not buy anything expensive, as they won't take it back or give you another cut of the same fabric when you find the problem with it. They never seem to crack a smile. The employees also will stand around talking in another language right in front of you rather than help their customers. A few times, they would tell us to go to another cutting counter when there isn't even anybody there to help us.
We bought 4 yards of Asian brocade fabric. When we took it home, we realized it had snags and lines all over it. We called them, and they said there was nothing they could do. They won't take it back, and they won't replace it. I would only recommend this store for small projects.
It seems that "SAS" Is the correct name for this establishment. Apparently they only hire people with a bad, or "Sassy" attitude.
I apologize that you had a bad experience at SAS. We've been working hard to improve our customer service and have been receiving positive feedback from our customers regarding our changes.
Terrific Finds, Terrible Service – I love this store! You can find just about anything you can imagine there, however they do not carry spandex and very little lycra. (He place is amazing but don't expect to get any help while you're there. It appears to be such an inconvience for the employees to assit you with anything.
I apologize that you had difficulty finding help when you were shopping at SAS. We've been making changes to improve our customer service and have been receiving positive feedback for our efforts.
Thank you for taking the time to review SAS.
Amazing! – I bought high quality pure white satin to have my wedding dress made with. All I can say is WOW. You should see how it turned out! I look like a princess. Thank you SAS!!
