Phoenix >Cork'n Cleaver
Never Again. Sorry to say this, but the wife and I were very excited to try a new place and left laughing. We both ordered filets at $33 a plate and the steaks were burnt and probably about 3/16 at the thickest spot. This was the most I ever spent for a dinner and the first time I’ve ever left any steak to throw away. Go to Apple Bees, the cuts are thicker and not burnt
crash and burn.
Called to make a reservation. The individual on the phone was so over joyed because someone was making a reservation (sounded like they were hurting) When we got there, yes they had reservations on the book, about eight total (three days before Christmas Hmmmm). Our waiter, let me just put it as gently as I can, I have had better service from Long John Silvers. Had to ask him his name, Larry. My wife had steak, a filet, about 3/4" thick, hacked up and tough. I had Prime Rib served on a dinner salad plate to make it look bigger. To finish off the night, Larry drops the check off, and I do mean DROPS it on the table and makes a comment of 'here's your bill, not much of a bill though!!"
I have been going to C&C since the 80's. I know times are tough but this sucked! The one star is for the salad bar. Good luck
Fabulous - EVERYTIME !!!. I have eaten at the Cork so many times, I can't count them. The servers, even the young people greeting diners as they walk in, are polite. Everything has always been great. Sometimes it's only 2-3 in our party, sometimes it's 10-12 - always, always, the Cork does a fabulous job. Their tuna is my favorite and it's cooked just as I asked for it. The salad bar, the soups, couldn't be better - every time, not just once or twice. Kudos to the Cork for excellent food, beverages, and service !
great service with a smile. I eat and drink at the cork quite often and have never recieved a bad experience such as the one stated below. I personally know the bartender and she has never taken more than a minute to get a drink out. She even knows what you drink and will have it in front of you before you ask if you frequent the place often. As far as the dining room service goes, the service is excellent. If there are any problems with the temperature of your meat, they will always correct it and make sure you are happy before you leave the building. So, I suggest you give the place another chance, or if you've never been, go. It's been a neighborhood staple for over 30 years. Kudos, Cork!
Could have been better.
I tried the cork because I was told it was an Arcadia staple by a few friends. My husband and I arrived a little early and decided to have a seat at the bar for a cocktail before our dinner. The bartender, a tall overly busty girl by the name of Michelle waited on us but not until telling the other waitress a lengthy story about how she got hammered the night before. After about 15 min. of being ignored I grabbed her attention and was given a dirty look. Like I am out of line for wanting a little service after sitting parched for 15 min. while this bartender told her epic story. When served she had the smell of a brewery. More buxom than brainy. We would have had at least two drinks had we been asked but after 40 min. we were seated at our table.
I would like to say that the bad experience ended there but it did not. Our waiter took almost a half hour to make it to our table and the place was not even that busy. When we did get out steak selections the were both way over cooked and lacked any taste at all. I hate to say this but I had to actually ask for steak sauce, something would never usually see me do. After another half hour our waiter returned and asked if everything was to our liking. At this point I was so disappointed I just wanted to go home. With doggy bags in hand and a 112 dollar tab we left with an attitude as bad as the bartender. I least our dogs made out! If this was once an Arcadia gem it as sinse lost it's luster.
Great Setaks and Salad Bar. I have been here a few times and never had any problems. Service is wonderful and the salad bar is awsome i mean come on you can have jelly bellys with your salad :) thats the first for me. Steaks are cooked just how i odered them and they are very tender and they just melt in your mouth. This is by far my favorite Steakhouse in AZ and you can bet i will be here again. I think their menu is pretty cool too its original i never seen one like it before it is a one of a kind.
An embarrassing experience. Our experience this past Sunday was by far one of the most embarrassing dining experiences I have ever shared with my fiance. We were out to celebrate my new job and were looking for a great dinner in an inviting atmosphere that was not pretentious. I read several reviews on this site and felt confident about my choice - and this was my second time there. Our server was weeded, which wasn't that big of a deal at first considering there was a larger group sat behind us with a couple of kids - understandable. He came to our table after being sat for several minutes to ask what we wanted to start out with - we weren't ready immediately but could have used some assistance choosing a wine - we got no help from him. We settled on a wine and a cocktailer took our order - again not a big deal, we understand asking for help from fellow teammates is not a sign of weakness. We had to tell our server upon his return that a cocktailer took our wine order and that we were ready to order. Anyway, bottom line, we had to open out own bottle of wine (I just happened to have a wine key in my purse) and pour it ourselves, we didn't even have pepper on our table, we never got out bread, and my fiance's steak was over cooked and when the manager brought the re-make out had the nerve to argue with my fiance about it (we had to take it to-go as I was finished with my meal). LOL - are you kidding me? To "make it up" - the server brought us out a mudpie icecream desert of some sort and said "it was on" him - it doesn't matter, I can't eat ice cream anyway, not good at all. I was so embarrassed as I chose the place and I was paying good Lord all I wanted to do was get the heck out of there. The best thing we ate was our salads - which we made ourselves - we could have gone to Super Salad for 1/6th of the cost! Bottom line, they just need to realize - the guest doesn't always have to be right - they just need to win. They lost any future business from us.
Always been known for great steaks and an honest cocktail served in a great atmosphere.. As the original Phoenix bartender (1965) I must correct the reviewer that stated the chain was started in the Midwest. Only if you are thinking midwestern Arizona. The chain was started in Scottsdale by Peter Greene and Tom Fleck in 1964.
Cork and Cleaver - Real Food. The Cork and Cleaver chain originated in the Midwest and you can tell that by the high quality of food served there. This is not a nuevo riche restaurant with foo foo faux decorations. This is a real place where the old establishment meets fresh food. The salad bar has cold pewter plates and by far the best salad bar in the Phoenix area. The steaks are hearty and flavorful. The staff is experienced and fun. The restaurant is timeless and the meals bring back memories of what food used to be. Great for finallizing a business deal or celebrating an anniversary. I heartily recommend it. Great on rainy nights. Discrete but not decadent.
Best Value & Meal in town.
One of the best steaks I've had in years. Not to mention all that comes with it. An incredible salad bar with close to 100 items....... even Jellie Bellies. (not just for the kids). A huge baked potato or rice. Fresh warm bread. All of this was included in the entree price. No hidden ala carte charges.
The service was excellent & attentive to our every need. There is a beautiful bar with 2 attached patios.
