Original transcontinental cuisine in a dramatic setting.. The Scene
Of all the restaurants in Phoenix, RoxSand probably boasts the most sophisticated decor. Black, gray and silver dominate the color scheme and are echoed in huge pieces of contemporary art. An upper level (which functions as an intimate dining loft) overlooks the downstairs. People are wowed by the result, which is drop-dead dramatic.

The Food
Call it fusion, transcontinental or global, it's delicious all the same. Start with piri piri (a spicy African shrimp dish), b'astilla (curried chicken wrapped in phyllo) or curried rice tamale. Entrees range from grilled confit of jerked rabbit to braised Persian lamb shank. Signature air-dried duck is not to be missed.

A reason to visit. I travel from Los Angeles to be amazed by the splendors that only RoxSand Scocos can deliver. Cleverly located in the middle of the Biltmore Fashion Park, RoxSand is a must-do. What a wonderful place, I highly recommend stopping in for lunch or dinner, her Shrimp Piri Piri is a great start, to an extraordinary experience...

Great menu items. Roxsand is a great chef and the menu changes often enough with wonderful new dishes. Desserts are the best in Phoenix. Enjoy!

If You Like Rich Desserts. Roxsand Scocos doesn't live here anymore but her desserts live on forever. The appetizers were flat compared with "Medizona's" offerings the night before. The Entrees of air dried duck and chilean sea bass w/horseradish crust were tasty but short of spectacular. The summer roasted vegetable fusilli satisfied the vegetarian among us...but the assorted dessert tray selected by our waiter was mouth watering. If you live for the dessert course this is a must stop.

New York chic. This restaurant definitely has class--New York chic! And, the food, service and satisfaction could not have been better. I look forward to returning whenever I have the oppotunity to be in Phoenix.

Roxsand: An Oily Remnant of Better Time. In the glamorous Biltmore area of Phoenix, Roxsand features fusion cuisine, blending flavors from Phoenix to Paris and Phuket to Pretoria. While the menu is expansive, including dishes such as Piri Piri, an African spicy shrimp dish, Kal Bi Ribs, cross-cut beef short ribs in Korean soy and honey marinade, and Chilean Sea Bass with Horseradish Crust, the chef needs to realize that one can cook without dousing everything in oil. While initially the restaurant may have been of award winning caliber (James Beard Foundation "Rising Star Series" 1991 and Food and Wine Top 25 Restaurants" 1991), the preparations now seem tired and the execution more by rote than with soul. The wine list is extensive, featuring many value choices as well as an extensive reserve list, and the knowledgeable servers are not afraid to make wine recommendations to complement your food selections. (Dinner for 2 with wine $125.)
