Editorial Review for Duck & Decanter – by Brian Obermiller

In Short
Tucked away in the southeast corner of the Camelback Arboleda shopping center, "The Duck" is easy to spot from Squaw Peak Parkway. This hybrid deli-wine bar-gourmet store and coffee bar includes plenty of seating on the front patio or second-level loft and an assortment of fancy European specialty cheeses and meats. Sandwiches to try include the Briescuitto or the bacon (Black Forest ham), tomato and cheese.

Far more interesting, though moderately pricey, sandwiches than your common sub shop for lunch. Weekends have quality bands (reggae, jazz, blues, variety) that make this spot worth the visit when you're out and about. Unique non-food offerings round out this nice place. Highly recommended for out-of-town visitors.

Pros: Variety/Quality, Courteous staff, Prices OK

Cons: Rarely really clean

5 Star Rating: Highly Recommended

This is possibly one of the better delis around. Duck and Decanter is a brilliant concept: take a European-influenced, gourmet store, add a formidable cheese section and devote an entire counter to just making sandwiches. The result is, quite plainly, devine. Sandwiches come in all shapes and sizes. The sundried tomato and brie concoction is devine, as well as the albacore tuna salad with avocado. Splurge and purchase a fancy drink as well. Sit on the patio and listen to live music and revel in an ideal lunch.

Pros: Great sandwiches, Gourmet coffee, Amazing deli

Cons: Can get crowded
