Usually a safe bet.... For a late-night craving for burgers or breakfast and it's reasonably close and inexpensive....however, it's a crap shoot if you order any classic diner goodies, such as an ice-cream soda or malt. Two of the last five times the servers have come up with some unique interpretations of the simple ice cream soda (a coke float...........or ice cream in plain carbonated water). Order a malt and you will likely get a milk shake without a trace of malt. Might be nice to actually train the waitstaff on how to make these items or at least tape instructions on the wall........... but other than that, it's a decent place and more interesting than a late dinner at IHOP or Denny's.
Low Five. From the time Bob Dole made a publicized early morning campaign stop here just before the 1996 election, the food and service at this location has been up and down like a yo-yo. It remains in our dining rotation primarily cuz the kids enjoy the diner atmosphere, coin jukebox and the occasional shake - and it's not as bad as it was. Breakfasts are a pretty safe bet and are served all day. I generally opt for an omelet or a club sandwich, and stay away from heavy fare like burgers and steaks. Open very late (24 hrs??). Good for kids who've never been inside a diner or if it's late and nothing else is open. Beyond that, I'd look to eat elsewhere in the abundant Camelback/16th street restaurant market.
awsome atmosphere. I love this diner located in the Glendale AZ area. Everytime I visit i always go there. The food is great, prices are very fair. Just wish there was a 5 & dinnner in the southeast
Welcome to the 1950s. Sidle into a booth or plunk a coin into the counter jukeboxes..
In Short
Expect 1950s nostalgia in the form of classic diner fare, Elvis Presley juke tunes and neon, chrome and red-vinyl booths. Choose from the hot meat loaf sandwich, spaghetti or one of the several blue-plate and senior specials. Families flock for the basic menu and '50s kitsch, and everyone flocks for the milkshakes and malts.
Cheap Eats. Just a great place to sit and eat. Good food, Great service and the price is always right.
5 & Diner. The 5 & Diner in Mesa AZ is the PITS. The hamburger meat was RAW and the manager would not discount my meal. The whole experience was left a "bad taste" in my mouth and I wouldn't let my dog eat there. I will try the 5 & Diner in Phoenix the next time we go to Phoenix. Thanks.
Ang. Breakfasts are large and made to order. Great service and a fun atmosphere. I take all my out-of-town guests there for breakfast to experience this great place!
Just not good. I have given this place several opportunities over the last couple of years with no change. The food is awful and service is less than satisfactory. Shame, because the concept is great
50's flair and Fabulous Food. This is a great place for dinner with the family and kids or just to hang out with friends and have a malt.
