Editorial Review for Encanto Park and Recreation Area – by Ben Winton

In Short
Enjoy everything from canoeing and paddle boating to swimming, picnicking and tennis--all in 80 acres of prime downtown real estate. Picnic tables and barbecue grills are abundant--an ideal spot for a family's Saturday afternoon out. Fishing is allowed, with a city fishing license from the boat-rental docks on the northern end of the park. A public nine-hole golf course is a hidden treasure, just north of the boat docks. On the southern side of the park, an Olympic-size public swimming pool is a great escape from the heat. Tennis courts and baseball fields also are near the pool.

I can't say that this is the most beautiful park I've ever been to or the cleanest, but it was fun. My husband, three year old son and I, went there on a weekend, early in June—late afternoon. The main reason was to take our son to Enchanted Island, the amusement park. They have kiddy rides at Enchanted Island—the metallic sparkled ones that I use to ride as a kid, but restored and in good working order. BTW, they are open on the weekends—in June from 5pm to 10pm, when it's cooler out. See their online schedule. We left the amusement section of the park and went for a paddle boat ride. There is trash in the water. I won't swim or fish in it, but it's fine for paddle boating. Overall a park with a lot of things to keep a three year old and his family busy.

Pros: Lots of things to do.

Cons: A little dirty

Encanto Park is horrible. The place is covered in trash. The river is so dirty I am surprised the ducks swim in it. Everything is run down and broken. It's not a nice park anymore as it used to be. Definitly not a family park. The last time my family and I went there is the last time. Never again. City of Phoenix needs to clean it up. Dont waste your time going there.

Pros: Dirty, filthy, trashy, complete waste of time.

Cons: None.
