Not worth the long, long, long wait.. I just came back from a very frustrating experience at Coronado. I went to meet 4 friends for lunch around noon. Not only did we wait for 40 mins.., we witnessed two other parties seated before us (both parties of 4). I suppose there are no extra chairs in the "cozy, cute" cafe. We were pushed outside in the 100+ heat thanks to the non-existent inside wait area. After a good, solid 45 mins., a kindly waiter offered to take our orders and assured us we would be seated by the time our food was in. Ten minutes later, our food had arrived and still no table. We ended up squishing together on two tiny patio tables, with barely enough room to eat. We were dangerously close to falling off the patio stairs. We were told by waiters that they "felt bad" but ultimately, "could not very well kick anyone out." We were not offered any discount or compensation for our trouble, but were simply told that they would "do their best," but were already basically doing all they could. It was a horrible experience and I will not go back in the future. If you are two people, perhaps you will not have trouble finding a table, but don't dare go with a large party, or during lunchtime unless you expect to wait 30+ mins. There are so many wonderful bistros on 7th St., don't waste your time on this one.
A wood-burning stove and a bottle of wine make this cottage the only place to be when the temperature goes down..
In Short
Phoenix doesn't get much winter weather, but on the occasional cold and blustery day, this cozy cottage-turned-restaurant features a wood-burning stove outside to warm up waiting customers, as well as hearty but creative food inside to warm up the lucky souls who've already scored a table. Cheap never seemed so chic.
Tea Party. Took my mom here a while back for a nice lunch. Dont remember food specifics other than the soups and sandwiches were perfectly lovely and reasonable. What I do remember is quite a long wait to get seated and that I was one of the few men in the cottage. I ordinarily prefer little unique places to chains and Coronado is certainly warm and homey, but in a decidedly feminine way. Petite chairs and tables aligned too closely made me, at 6'3", feel a bit like a bull in a china shop. From what I could see, Coronado serves its niche market well and I wish them continued success - Phoenix diners benefit from having distinctive, independent choices from which to choose. It's just not my kinda place.
Charming!. Coronado Cafe is a wonderful place to have a fresh bite to eat. It has such character and the wonderful service makes you feel at home. I stopped in for lunch on my first visit, and will be coming back to try dinner. I hear the ambience is perfect for a romantic evening.
awesome. this little place has more charm and character than most of the large restaurants put together in the city! The food is very good, priced right, and the staf is enthusiastic, prompt, and very attentive... they do not miss a thing!
HIDDEN TREASURE. The service is great! The ambience is so warming. THE FOOD IS OUTSTANDING!! The corn chowder and ceasar salad are my personal faves. Don't forget a homemade cookie on your way out!
very "Phoenix". small, quaint, good service, good food, interesting variations on the usual
Small is good. A cozy cottage type setting, the food is imaginative and delicious.
Perfect Lunch Spot. Grab a hearty Chicken Ceaser Sandwich, cup of soup, and sit back and enjoy a relaxing ambience from the past and comfort foods for the new century. Save room for the heavenly cookies or Browine ala mode!
