The Best!. I am an Arizona Native and know good Mexican food. I have been eating at Tia Rosa's for Years!!!! This is my absolute favorite Mexican food restaurant. I crave the shrimp tacos all of the time. My husband loves the Chimichangas because the meat is so tender and wonderful. You will love it!
Pleasant surprise. On my way to work the other day, I noticed a new restaurant opened on Higley. I had never heard of Tia Rosa's but now I am wondering how that was possible. The news about something this good usually spreads fast. So I wanted to help spread the news to all those who like me have been missing out all these years. I had to talk my husband into going that night and when we were leaving he said that he was impressed. And that's saying alot! There is so much to look at, and the salsa were yummy. I got the peach chicken dish which was maybe my favorite thing I've eaten anywhere, and my husband of course got the Chimi. Even their beans were a step above! Our server was friendly and helpful as I had lots of questions. She actually recommended the dish I got. Love this place, will go again.

From the original Rosa’s Mexican Grill on the corner of University and Mesa Dr., Rancho de Tia Rosa on McKellips between Val Vista and Lindsay, and finally, the newest “fast-food” oriented restaurant on Baseline and Gilbert, all locations are easy to find and taste equally as fantastic. No matter what, the food is always mouth-watering, the service is friendly and timely, and the atmosphere is unbeatable.
For the sake of this review I will stick to Rancho de Tia Rosa, which also includes a Taqueria for a faster lunch, if need be. Immediately when you drive into the parking lot, you feel as though you have left Mesa behind and entered a happy, music filled version of Baja-California and Mexico design. The atmosphere engulfs you immediately as you walk through door. After a friendly Hostess takes you to your seat, the design of the dining room lights up your eyes. Within seconds you are greeted by a server and hot, fresh chips are on your table with the best salsa you will ever have, available in green or red. (Green is perfectly mild, while red is more chunky and more spicy.) Coke products along with Mexican juices and sodas are offered to you including a “Mexican Coke” which is brought to you in it’s original glass Coke bottle.
Now to the food. Every single meat is cooked to perfection, the actaul dish the meat is in does not make a difference. Shredded beef and chicken are so tender they practically fall apart. The shrimp bursts with flavor and fish tacos leave nothing to be desired. To be fair, I do have one problem with the restaurant. Their desserts are not my favorite. But I do not particularly care for Fried Ice Cream anywhere, not just here. However, by the time you are finished eating, usually your stomach is filled to the brim with no room for dessert anyway.
Overall, if you are craving Authentic Baja-Mexican cuisine, then visit one of the Rosa’s valley locations and you will not be disappointed.
Rancho De Tia Rosa is where Mexican cuisine becomes a work of art. Well I certainly think that is true. I recently went to the new location on Higley and Guadalupe and enjoyed every bit of it. The look and feel of the restaurant itself was similar to the other location on McKellips just east of Lindsay. You walk in and you feel like you have just entered a Mexican restaurant in Mexico. It has a feel of a whole different world. Its like nothing you would ever see unless in Mexico. When walking in there is tile on the bottom half of the walls and the rest is hay, your table top is also tiled.
We were seated right away. It was about 5:30 on a Friday night. We even got a booth. Our server did a great job of checking up on us when we needed. I ordered the chicken chimichanga and my boyfriend ordered the red beef chili Tia Rosa burro. For drinks we order the pomagranate lemonades and water was brought to us right away. This lemonade is to die for delicious. While we waited for our food we snacked chips and salsa. The chips were warm, you could tell they were freshly made. For me the red sauce was spicy but I am such a girl. My boyfriend said he loved it. We finally switched salsas and I tried the green sauce. Personal I liked the green sauce more it was sweet but not sweet all at the same time. Usually I like salsa that is chunky but this time it was not the case. It was between chunky and smooth.
We got our food just after we had finished two baskets of chips. The food looked and smelled great. I tried my chimichanga and yum it was good. The chicken was so moist, I really wanted to go up to one of the chefs and tell him how good it was. They must marinate the chicken in something because it was just the way I like it. The chimichanga came with sour cream, guacamole, and cheese on top, with rice and beans on the side. Then the red beef chili tia rosa burro was good too. My boyfriend said it was amazing, I liked it too but if you don’t like spicy then this is not the burro for you. If you don’t believe me go try it for yourself. It is definitely worth the trip.
Best mexican food I've ever had.
We have been loyal patrons for years. The Salsa is a very happy party in your mouth every.single.time. I crave the salsas and literally dream about them.
Service is awesome. It is always busy, usually with a wait. But so worth it.

Chicken mango salad.
who thinks of a mango salad when they want mexican food? try it, you will never regret it. The chicken is enveloped in the most lovely mango chutney and grilled, serve warmed over a bed of fresh greens and other goodness. LOOOOOOvvvvvveee it!

Don't Waste Your Time Or Money.
This was our fist visit. We were seated very quickly in I think the main dining area. It was so noisey that we couldn't even talk unless we leaned over the table and yelled at each other.
The chips came with a green and a red salsa. The red salsa tasted awful! To me it had a fishy taste; my husband said it had a very chemical taste. The green salsa tasted like a cup of sugar had been dumped in it. Both salsa's were very runny so trying to dip a chip meant dripping all over the table as no plates were provided.
I had the chicken quesadilla. It was very dry and the chicken definitely tasted like reheated chicken.
My husband had the two enchiladas. He said the beef was good but the enchiadas were also very dry.
The refried beans were also very runny and tasted burned.
It cost $3.50 for a bottle of Miller Lite. After the waiter took our order he never again stopped at out table. My water glass was empty and I could not get a refill. My husband did not get asked if he wanted another beer.
Finally the waiter stopped and asked if we wanted a box. No offer of dessert.
Not worth the money for inadequate service, reheated food, and bad tasting food.
Worst visit ever.
About a month ago my husband and I went to Tia Rosa's. It was our favorite Mexican restaurant. Loved the food, the decor, it was a perfect place to go. We took all our out of town friends/relatives there whenever they came to town. We have probably been there at least 70 times since they opened.
What a horrible shock when we dined there last month. First of all, it was early in the service for dinner so there were lots of tables open. We sat for 20 minutes before someone came to take our drink order. After waiting another 10 minutes to get our drink it arrived, we both had margaritas, they were good. I waited another 15 minutes before getting up and asking a server if we could get chips and salsa. Another 15 minutes and that arrived. When our food arrived I told my husband that the kitchen must have been overrun with caucasians. The food was so bland, nothing had any taste, I had chicken enchiladas, beans and rice, no flavor to any of it. My husband had Tre Asadas, no flavor in any of it. We were so disappointed. Terrible food and service. We won't be going there again.
Best Margarita's and Food.
First and foremost.... buy a drink if you are going on a weekend evening because you will have to wait for a table. The food is fantastic and by far you a great value as well.
We always bring out of town guests here, and they now bring their friends as well. Great atmosphere with a fantastic menu. Highly recommend the Carne Azada or even the Carnita's.... my mouth is watering just thinking of this place.

I used to LOVE Rancho de tia Rosa, and ate at the original in downtown Mesa for years.
But, I'm done.
The last few times I have gone there, my dining experience has been ruined because I am seething by the time I reach my table. Their hostess staff is extremely rude, and is less than honest. We had a reservation for a large party, and they made us wait for 1/2 hour and copped HUGE attitude with us when we inquired why we weren't seated yet. They just told us time and time again, "your table is being prepared".
I was so embarassed. I had chosen the restaurant for our group, which included people from out of state.
No smiles. No apologies. They just didn't really care.
I suggest they stop hiring snotty teenagers from the affluent neighboring areas, and hire people who actually care about customer service.
I worked my way through college in restaurants, so I am usually the first to be forgiving when people in customer service role are simply overwhelmed, or having a rough day. But that is not the case here, because I keep going there and they continue with their rudeness EVERY single time.
I'll just go to the original restaurant in downtown Mesa (which the Sirrine's sold) instead. The food is the same. Its cheaper. And frankly, the service is a WHOLE lot better.
Enjoy the food, but be prepared for rude staff and long waits.
While the food is unquestionably excellant, the service usually leaves quite a lot to be desired. On one occasion, the head host actually had the nerve asked us if we were leaving soon so that they could seat a large party in the room where we had been sat. Since we had just finished dinner and hadn't yet ordered dessert (one of the wonderful things about Tia Rosa's), we obviously weren't leaving soon. After conplaining to the manager on duty who didn't seem to care, I doubt that we will be dining at the restaurant again.
We have had one fabulous server, Jose, who served our son's food incredibly fast, so fast that it arrived almost before our drinks did. Ask for Jose.
Another draw back is the lack of a varied children's menu. Our son has a tomato allergy and can't enjoy much mexican food. Most restaurants have a standard children's menu catering towards children and their favorites. Tia Rosa's only has mexican food on their children's menu. Just be prepared.
Sadly, while we do enjoy the food, the service and the insanely long wait isn't enough to bring us back to the restaurant proper. We will be enjoying take out from the Taqueria, if parking can be found.
