Fun stop, if you can find it. Hidden along the Apache Trail and miles from civilization, this one-time stagecoach stop is was an interesting find. The restaurant/bar makes you feel like you're in the wild west. We got a burger and a chili dog, and were happy with both. The chili was hot, but very tasty. We even purchased a pack of spices to bring back home with us. We weren't hungry enough to try the ice cream, but just walking thru the few buildings in town makes this a unique experience and definitely a fun stop. Give it a try if you're in the area (ie lost in the desert in Arizona)

For a real taste of the West, stop by Tortilla Flats.. The Scene
The "Flats" is tucked away in the Superstition Mountains along a scenic highway that curves and winds through picturesque Apache and Canyon lakes. The bar is far from fancy, but its Western atmosphere is bound to please tourists and its popular burgers are well known throughout Phoenix. Enjoy sitting outside, drinking a beer and listening to country music. Don't forget to indulge in some Prickly Pear ice cream--a specialty of the house. You can also purchase postcards, T-shirts and other memorabilia.

expensive for what you get. We stopped here on the Apache Trail drive, because it was basically the only place to eat in that area. The atmosphere was fun with all the currency stapled to every wall in the place, but the service was very slow even though it wasn't crowded. I had a burger and my bf had a burrito and both were bland and a little overpriced. I would go there if you're hungry, but I would suggest packing something with you for the drive and eaitng in that area. There's a small bed of water right there by the road and it's really pretty. And then you can spend your money on the prickly pear ice cream, or any of the other homemade ice creams in the store right next to the restaurant instead!
