The Black Keys play at Mesa Amphitheatre – I attended a great show at the Mesa Amphitheatre on Thursday April 14, 2011. The Black Keys, Cage the Elephant and Stones Foxes played that night. I was primarily going for The Black Keys because they are one of all-time favorite bands but I actually like the two other bands as well, finding new music is always great. Hearing music of good quality in both production and sound is an even better thing though. The acoustics of the Mesa Amphitheatre sounded pretty great; I could hear lyrics over the rock and roll loudness coming from all the other speakers. One of my biggest pet peeves at a show is bad sound quality and I am glad to say that there was not one song that sounded band.
The lines were long to get in and the workers did not do a great job of directing people and differentiating that there were actually boy and girl separate lines. Once you got up there they would be upset that you weren’t where you were supposed to be. The lines for the beer were even longer, although this was a sold out show. The ground was strewn with trash, maybe if they had more trash cans they would not have to clean up as much and it would be a little nicer, other than that is a great place to catch a show. It is also outdoors so you can actually have fresh air while you enjoy a concert instead of being stuffy and crowded. You won’t have to worry about having a late night here either because this theatre has a cut off of 10pm so you can plan on the show ending then. Totally worth the long lines to hear good music played here.
Lounge in the sun or under the stars while listening to the latest and greatest bands. – In Short
The Mesa Amphitheatre was built in 1978, and to date, remains one of Phoenix's most popular outdoor venues. Lounge on the grass terraces or take a seat at the curving cement tiers that double as steps. This idyllic open-air facility can seat 4,200 at capacity and all seating areas have an unobstructed view of the large, covered stage. Book a social gathering, cookout or family picnic at the Amphitheatre, but keep in mind that a City of Mesa noise ordinance requires all performances to finish by 10pm.
